I'm sorry, but no reasonable consumer is going to expect that they would get THIRD-DEGREE burns from coffee. there is just no reason for someone to make coffee that hot, and if they do, they should be respobsible for the foreseeable consequnces of their actions.

Yeah because McDonalds should have to tell every person.

" HEY BY THE WAY THE COFFEE IS FUCKING HOT SO DON'T DRIVE, TALK ON THE CELL PHONE, PUT YOUR MAKE-UP ON, READ THE NEWSPAPER,COMB YOUR HAIR,CHECK YOUR E-MAIL ON YOUR LAPTOP and TRY TO DRINK HOT COFFEE ALL AT THE SAME TIME".
STUPID FUCKING IDIOTS.

I'm sorry, but coffee is NOT supposed to be served at a tempature which can cause THIRD-DEGREE burns.

ditto to that. Not only at McDonalds...I run my own business from home, and people who inspected my home actually checked for the water temperature coming out of my kitchen faucet to make sure the hot water was conform to their safety regulations as to not cause third degree burns.

The point is that it is entirley possible and reasonable to serve coffee at a tempature that will not hurt people. Here are some facts on the case:

We have found the winner! He has never in his entire life spilled something on himself!

Congrats! You win the prize!

It doesn't matter how she spilled it. The product was beyond a temperature that would be reasonable. Next time you get ice cream and it's been frozen at 60 below, let me know how fair it is to serve it to someone like that without them knowing other than saying "It's very cold!". Your tounge may not agree with your rash generalizations.

Well both McDonalds and the lady were stupid because:

- McDonalds is stupid because Coffee is never supposed to be held at a temperature over boiling. Not because of safety but because it ruins the taste completely. That's the whole point of all of our fancy coffee makers. To get the water just short of boiling and have it cooling by the time it hits the grounds.

- The woman is stupid because McDonald's coffee back then tasted like ass.

Is it any surprise that McDonald's new "gourmet cofee" coincides with them getting machines which don't boil the coffee?

What do you think would cause worse burns, boiling coffee or boiling fluff?

Give me a break, people now a days are so ready to blame some one else for their own stupidity ie:

sue McDees because thier Coffee is to hot.

sueing Dawn dish soap because they used it in thier tea because it says made with real Lemons.

sueing Gilette for cutting themselves with a razor b/c they didn't know it was that Sharp

sueing SKIPPY because they had a reaction to thier peanut butter when they knew they were alergic to Peanuts.

sueing the cable company because it made them lazy.

sueing McDees, Burger King , Wendys, Taco Bell, Sonic, KFC, Aarbys and any other fastfood because the food makes them FAT

on and on. Yep, lets blame some one else, its so much easier than taking responsibility for our own lives.......How much money can I make on this law suit.

Following that exact logic, when someone produces a dangerous product, they should take responsibility the injury cuased from their product. The people who "need to take responsibility" are as much the corporations as the indivduals.

Moreover, it is clear from your sweeping generlizations that you have no idea how the legal system works. On face value, anything you said above would never make it anywhere in court. However, when the facts of a given siuation relveal that someone or something has been negligent, or disregarded COMMON SENSE, then there is a legitiamate reason to hold someone else accountable for their behaviour.

No, not a lawyer. Yet. However, I am second year law student who is working within the legal field. Some of those "cases" you mentioned *tried* to get into court and were tossed, other did, and were rightfully decided provided that you go beyond a FOX 25 news analysis and look at what actully hapened (i.e. the McDonalds case).

If Lawyers in the USA were not

Parasitic scum then there would be

"LOSER PAYS"

If I win power ball I will try to get the

American Bar rounded up under RICO laws.

They are far more costly and damaging then the Mafia or drug cartels.

If your going to be a lawyer now in the USA be ashamed

Actully, I am working at a place that represents children who are in state custody for things like abuse, negelect, sexual abuse, etc. The lawyers I work with make sure that the kids are getting properly placed into adaquate foster/ adoption homes, get educational needs met, that DSS is not letting kids fall through the cracks, and that someone is looking after the kids best interest, etc. Oh, did I mention it was a non-profit orginization?

OH, how the shame of the work racks me. Should I consider suicide now, or wait till the mob your leading trys to lynch me?

Rich, sometimes your posts seem a bit skewered, but this one *really* shows that you have no idea what your taking about.

lawyer in training,
-sedition

Pay no attention to the anti-lawyer diatribes from our resident Unabomber.

He's been locked up in that cabin of his with nothing but right wing radio for years now.

I bet a bunch of those lawsuits were just BS that some talk show host made up.

Chris....then you're probably gonna be one of the good ones, who do this profession for justice and fairness, not for how it can make you wealthy. But I got agree that a LOT of lawyers don't really give a crap about what's really important, they're just in it to win and make money, no matter what. It's hard to find a good lawyer, most don't always have your best interest at heart, they just want your money...lots of it. Did you choose yourself to work with the court children? Kuddos to you....they need people like you who care about them.
