Kerry isn't stupid.

His Wife cut him off from her money after the 2004 Election.

Now he's desperate for $$ he cut a secret deal with Bush & Cheney to sabotage Democratic candidates.

Oh and it stings cause it's true... the military goes all out to recruit people out of lower-income/lower-opportunity areas, cause they know they will have more success.

At the same time there is an acknowledged brain drain that is keeping top students from going into the Academies or signing up for ROTC at top schools. (Plenty of news coverage of this) It's a problem as 50 or 100 years ago a lot more people viewed a military career as a fantastic option and today they don't. This is hurting our military.

And this goes across both conservative and liberal groups.. case in point none of our leaders having children in the military. That is a major problem IMO.

Prior to the Civil War and gross weapons capitalisation a soldier was a decent job.

Some danger sure but life was cheap then anyway... you could die of a sore throat.

When Govnmt. had to spend on more modern weapons they no longer paid like a real job. They invented patriotism and duty to country to get men to go.

Up to Vietnam if you were a valued part of the military industrial complex that could make war machines then you didn't have to get drafted etc. So for Vietnam they drafted everbody and had a bunch of really pissed off draftees to deal with.

Now its volunteer so we do have the duty segment but if used can provide an opportunity to some one of low means who wants to get ahead.

PSST... Out of my Preppy high school and college I can't think of a single one who didn't figure out how to avoid the military. I am sure when young ambitious Kerry got in the Navy he thought he would just paddle around for 3 or 4 years and get the necessary service behind him. Then I think he got a dose of real Vietnam ruined some underwear and has hated the military ever since.

What Kerry said, was meant as a reference to Bush, not troops. Kerry said it is the president who owes U.S. soldiers an apology - for "a Katrina foreign policy" that misled the country into war in Iraq, failed to adequately study and plan for the aftermath, has not properly equipped troops and has expanded the terrorist threat.

I love when people piss and moan about the troops not having adaquate armor/supplies, but yet they vote against funding for it.. If dumb people can become president, I guess I'm in the wrong business... And just how expanded is the Terror threat when we have not had even so much as a smoke bomb set off in the name of Terrorism in this country in 5 years??

No i do not think we all know what he ment?? Judging by his comment i would have to say, he ment stupid people go in the military.. Last i knew It takes some brains to be elected President and most of the time takes a decent Education and some studing, so what exactly in his comment would lead me to believe he was talking about anyone other then the troops???? And Judging by How quick that Picture of the Troops in the banner came out, i would saey the Soilders have a pretty good idea about what is going on and being said over here, and the partisn that goes on.. I am sure it does wonders for there moral..
