Yeah, I dont understand that. A police officer stopped a van full of illegals and gets sued for sending them to immigration.

I'm going to write the ACLU and have them sue the last police officer who wrote me a ticket. Because dammit, I dont like tickets.

so what they were illegal aliens, what the RI state police did was also illegal

here in NH, while we don't see as much ratial profilling by police, we do see age discrimination,

younger people are often illegally detained & searched, just cause they are young adults driving on a road that the local leos think no one should be on, especially at 3am

ding ! ding ! ding ! Yes, we have a winner ! Aside from that, as has already been pointed out, these people were illegal therefore they have no, zero, NADA, 0.00 US Constitutional rights. So, why would the ACLU choose to take up a case which doesn't belong in the US Justice system in the first place ?

they only have no rights after they have been proven to be illegals, failure to produce documents is not proof, I know that I cannot produce documents proving my citizenship, nor can most citizens

initially everyone has equal rights

until you know the details of the stop and the train of thought the officer had there is no way to tell. The condition of the vehicle and the people in it....the attitudes of the passengers. Wire hire cops to make these decisions for a reason...it needs to be done.

You couldn't produce a driver's license?

The people in the van had no ID and didn't speak English. Sounds like probable cause for a trip to the INS to me.

passengers get asked for their id's all the time when in a car that is being stopped.....happened to me many times...nothing racist about. I've also been stopped as a kid for driving around late in a suburban neighborhood...it happens because most kids out that late are up to no good....

profiling is necessary for the police to do their jobs....

did they have the id's on them? if not then they should be detained...

you are required to pass an english comprhension exam in order to become a citizen....if what you say is true sounds like they should be citizens. Too bad they do not try and assimilate and learn english like most of the immigrants that come to this country legally..

i dont like that fact that we are not doing anything to stop it. I have no problem with the individuals...i would do the same thing if i were them....but it is a huge problem that people are ignoring...the whole system is fucked and needs to be changed. But to say screw it and let whoever wants to come in, in is completely reckless and irresponsible

Dude WTF? How are the terrorists supposed to get in if we close the borders? I mean fuck we are chasing them out of their own country. Besides we as americans need to take on all the hard luck cases of the world...Duh!!!

I think i'm gonna look into imigrating to a country that is selective about who they let in their borders....

OR, there's always FRANCE !!!!! Speaking of which, we all know what is happening over there because of years of un-checked immigration. They have a HUGE problem with illegals, so much so that the cops are afraid to go into some neighborhoods controlled by, mostly Muslim groups of people. So, I guess as long as we are doing nothing to stop the flow of illegals, we can all expect to be overrun, in our own country by people who come here by illegal means.

I hate the fact that our legislators, GW included, refuse to do ANYTHING to properly address and bring the situation under control.

BTW, did anyone else hear of the National Guard troops who were attacked by illegals coming across the border from Mexico into Arizona. Now because the Guardsmen had strict orders not to shoot, they had to retreat until the illegals eventually made their way back over to Mexico. WTF, why put them down there if we're going to keep their hands tied, just as we've been doing in Iraq. I guess that's how we fight, these days....

I think it boils down to this:

Do we want to live in a country where a government official, police or military person can stop you and demand "papers"?

On one hand, no, I don't want to be harassed. Start lookin like Nazi Germany after a while.

On the other, I don't want illegals here.

Not an easy fix.

The thing here is that profiling works. If it didn't then the cops wouldn't want to use it. The FBI keeps their eye out for really good profilers and pays them well. We as a society have to quit with the whole poor me im a minority. You don't here the crackers in Africa crying poor me. All of this PC bullshit has got to end. While we're at it can we get barefoot and pegnant back as well? I like that idea.
