The system sucks, but until there's some middle ground, nothing is going to change.

Father's rights groups want the BASIC cost of raising a child to be split 50/50. Mother's rights groups (insert your favorite feminist group here) want the fricken' world.

Yeah life sucks when you're poor and paying child support, but life also sucks when you're poor and raising a child. I've got very little sympathy for the guy paying $100 a month in child support. WTF? IMO everyone can do something for work, they just need to want to work.

I could bitch about this subject till next week, but it wouldn't solve anything. IMO the first step in improving the formula, is to define what the support is for.

Father's Rights is a great book that goes into detail about how f'd up the system is. I have been put threw hell with my x-wife. I went an entire summer without seeing my children. When I took her to court, the date was 2 months after I filed that she was in contempt of court. The judge did nothing, and it turned into a child support hearing (eventhough we already went last year). So in the end, my children are the ones that suffer.

In the end, my kids are worth fighting for, and I will never give up.

I never understand these issues.....

I have three kids, and get 32.00 a week, yes folks, 32.00 a week to help raise them. I don't know what you folks eat, but this does not even buy them cereal for the week, much less anything else. The father, well, I TAKE them to him whenever he wants and PICK them up when it is time to go home. I buy every stitch of cloths including the stuff that stay's at his place, I pay for ALL their living expenses, all their activities, provide medical care and insurance and everything in between.

Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, they are my kids and I will work myself to the bone to provide for them. I just never understand all the stories I hear about fathers needing more rights. Something tells me I got the shit end of the stick...but it's my stick, and I take responsibility for it.

Besides all this, isn't it nice to have a life that you can come and go as you please and not have to worry about appointments, rides to basketball, school work, laundry, money etc etc etc and only have to 'take care' of them when you can or want. It's as easy as, 'nope, I have to work this weekend' and once again it's me that has to do it all.

I gladly do it all. They are mine. And never once did I ever use the phrase "I have to babysit (my own kids!!)". Besides, I know where they are, what they are doing and that they are safe, warm and fed.

I got the shit end of the stick because Maine's shining Human Services department decided that the mother was more fit to be a parent than I was.

This is a woman that I never married ... just the most expensive one night stand in the world. Long history of drug abuse and alcohol abuse.
Yet I was judged not fit to be my son's father.

In the time my son grew up, I got 2 BS degrees, started a masters degree that I am finishing at the end of the month. And helped 3 step kids get their respective degrees in which they are all very successful in their respective fields today.

My child support was fair, unfortunately, it was not used to support my son.
I paid for his insurance, all medical bills, his private schooling till he got expelled for drug use and all clothes and gifts.

Child support should be a 50/50 settlement.

Nothing pisses me off more than watching some sonovabitch bragging that he pays 20 dollars a week cause he is beating the system by working under the table.

On the other hand, there is a guy where I work who is paying 900 dollars a week for a 12 year old daughter. Now tell me with a straight face that any kid costs that amount of money.

Equal rights .... equal pay .... equal responsibility .... equal access .....

Maybe if that TRUELY did happen, you would not see guys going wacko and
killing off their entire families because they are going to lose everything they
ever worked for their entire lives.

The system as it stands is pure bullshit.

EDIT: I am not condoning the above behavior ... but I challenge anyone to prove that a man will have a fair shake in a custody argument.
Also there is no incentive for a man to "pony up" and pull his share of the load. This system is so adversarial that there has to be a winner and a loser.
The kids are the pawns and also are the ones that pay the worst price when the battle gets to be that bad.

IMO...Anyone who has their kids fulltime and receives less than $300 a month is getting the shaft.

$900 a week = tax free alimony

The current system of using only income do determine child support sucks. Buying a house is damn near impossible...try to meet the banks 34% debt to income ratio when the state is taking 25% of your income. You'd have to make 135k a year and would be paying about $2500 a month in child support to afford a $100k house...err...shack.
