The New Bedford Raid...

...was really fucked-up.

Women working in a virtual sweatshop (i.e. the are NOT lazy immigrants bilking welfare like most seem to think they are), paid below minimum wage, forced to work long hours w/o overtime, docked pay for small infractions, manufacturing products for the **US ARMY**, and had their kids left at school becuase mom was arrested. The real crime here was done by the factory managers who exploited these people, and the government for wrecking their families. It's really sad. There are so many ways they could have "raided" the place and dealt with this issue other than abndonning kids to the department of social services. Illegals are a problem, no doubt. But this is totally the worst way to go about dealing with it.

There could have been better ways to go about it maybe, but bottom line is they shouldn't be here. Who's paying for their kids to be in school by the way? It's not them. That is one of many problems that needs to be cleaned up and I'm glad to see some effort in doing it.

I just hope there is plenty'o'jailtime for every person related to the company. Owners, managers, workers, stakeholders, everyone. If there were no jobs, illegals wouldn't come here, simple as that. Lets start at the root of the problem.

It is what always happens when govermental agencies are more interested
in media coverage instead of doing their jobs in a professional manner.

Waco and Ruby Ridge are outstanding examples of media gloat.
Both could of been handled very easily with low key behind the scene ops.

But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

They got to have the TV cameras there to justify their fucking jobs!

I got a bet ... any one here want to bet me it took more time to plan media coverage instead of the raid?

All the complaints about babies being stranded & families separated and "It's cold outside" are just excuses.

This was a bad situation that was left alone for WAY too long. Everyone involved had to know they were playing with fire. To cry when the house of cards finally comes falling down is ridiculous. They (owners, workers, etc..) all knew it was illegal and might not last forever.

Some solution needs to be found but it is not "winking" at a bunch of illegals who are being treated like sh*t. If they are going to stay get them processed and legal and then sic OSHA on the factory owners and make those MFers treat their workers like human beings. If companies need to save every last penny you might as well go to China, the workers in China are probably living better then these people were because everything is just less expensive over there.

Yes the Chinese will take care of this for you

Everybody will be out of work

Play on Grasshoppers play on

Middle class goes 1st with the end of good MFG jobs then the poor then finally the upper classes will feel the pinch as there is no one with a dollar to exploit. Teach your children to say yes sir no sir in Mandarin.

When there is no money and or jobs the mexicans will go home problem solved.

Yeah, i'm sure that's going to happen. Just like that in fact. The loss of illegal imigrants will crumble the economy and the country.

This has been gone on for so long, probably half the kids that were in school while their parents got arrested are US citizens. Now either the parents stay, the children are put in foster care ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$), or children that are US citizens get deported with their illegal parents.

Maybe being born here shouldn't be an automatic citizenship if the women giving birth is here illegally.

no offense dude, but that is just silly and the numbers prove it. they cost us billions in health care and schooling alone. They(most) are a drain to our economy and a threat to our safety. To say they are all here for the americn dream is just as silly.....most of them have no interest in becoming americans. They want to come here make then send it back to their country....they do not try to assimilate(sp?), have no interest in learning english and so on...

WAAAAA...ya they are all victims...boo friggin hoo.. everyone of those factory workers knew they were taking a risk. Shame on them for putting their kids in that position. They are gambling with their childrens well being, but they are the victims..nice. This problem will not fix itself, the laws need to be enforced...

They're all victims??? Hell no! They knew what they were doing when they got their phony documents.

The laws do need to be enforced, but at what cost financially? If the kids were born here they have the same rights as any other citizen, they can't be deported. If ya deport the parents, then ya got foster care thrown on top of education and medical expenses.

There's no easy solution...

you are 100% correct but you cant turn a blind eye to the problem. I dont blame the immigrants either, i'd do the same thing if i were in their shoes, but that doesnt make it right. There are far more abuses then success stories...the problems arent that visible most of the country which why nothing is being done to fix it. Also, the children of the illegals are a big problem....they are causing a lot of problems from crime and abusing the gov't benefits.

The New Bedford Raid...

Watching a cast on NECN yesterday about this. Amazingly they filled just about all 300+ positions that were 'vacated' in just two days. All with legal, local residents. Still think the local Americans don't or won't do 'that' kinda work? Guess again. I believe they said the highest hourly rate of hire was $8.00/hr and working conditions were quesionable. Yet they still managed to fill up the spots...

One dude said it well. When asked about his new job he said something to the effect that it's not that they WON'T do that kinda work, it's that they CAN'T due to illegals doing it for half the pay...

Apparently, honest, legal immigrants and Americans were lined up around the outside of the building waiting to get in to apply...
