Wrong man for the job

8 weeks in and how much controversy do we already have with Patrick?

Fancy car, secretary for his wife that makes nearly twice what I do, redecorating? And now he needs a break because his wife is "exauhsted and depressed"? Isn't that what celebrities say when they're addicted to drugs, or have a drinking problem? Maybe that overpaid secretary could take care of his wife and he could start doing his fucking job.

Yah and they could film the secretary taking care of the wife and sell it to pay off the deficit?

Err.. I'll shut up now since I don't live in MA anymore. Wouldn't want to be one of those "out of state experts" that seems to know everything about MA while knowing nothing about MA.

It's ok, I bought a place in NH, but I work down here so I have the right to bitch about what I don't know.

I am in the same boat, it is called taxation without representation.

I work in mass and I don't get any of the benefits.
What really pissed me off big time was when I was looking to get another
degree, they wanted to charge me out of state tuition rates.

The words that I used basically will prevent me from ever applying for
tuition there again ... not that I am interested any more.
My masters will be done in 3 weeks and I never want to take another class
again ... so help me.

Never mind the new car how about $12,000 for new curtains and $72,000 a year for an assistant for his wife no less. Maybe the people fucked up on this one...including myself.

Now we all get to sit back and see how he reverts this state to the way it was when Michael Do-Tax-Us was in office with his lush of a wife, Kitty and her rubbing alcohol phase. (not to mention she's one of the reasons the Pike changed everything from green to blue)

So hessogood can still complain since he's still paying taxes I guess.

I'm working in NH, and I just got my NH drivers license today. But I still have outstanding taxes in MA so I'll bitch & have an opinion for a little while still.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to file in MA for 2007 too for 8 weeks.

I'm trying to get out of my 2007 excise taxes on my car/bike but they set the due date fast enough that I'm worried I won't get my NH registration and have my MA registrations cancelled fast enough so I'll have to pay the full amount and then try to get a refund for 5/6th of the taxes.

Hopefully with a job here I'll be able to stay this time.

I moved to NH (for the 2nd time) 2 weeks ago.

I'm hoping there is plenty of work for a long time so I don't end up moving back to MA for work.

I really don't want to end up becoming one of those people who drives 2 hours into MA every day for work but I'm getting sick of moving.. I'd probably rather move to the west coast at this point then go back to MA again.

Wise thinking...thats the biggest reason for me moving out there. Lots of work to be had. The weather was made for the god's and my bike and boat will love it.

How does the whole tax system work when you live in NH and work in MA? You get double fucked? NH property taxes and MA income taxes?

Wrong man for the job

I've been living in NH and working in MA for 22+ years. No one's forcing me too. I can always quit and/or move. I would quit in heartbeat if I could find the same compensation in a job I like as much, in NH, but I can't. I did the math, it's worth it.

Yep you're definitely right there.. for people with education, tech skills, etc.. MA has a lot of high paying jobs, and it can still be cheaper to live in NH even if you pay MA taxes.

But you're driving like crazy, reducing quality of life and/or health, etc..

I got a raise to work in NH. NO way I could possibly justify having anything to do with MA anymore.

Now I guess I need to do my budget *real* careful and see if the claims on financial sites are true that the cost of living is $10,000 less in my new setup versus the old one.

It is very weird & strange to have no commute. I walked to work this morning, about a 10 minute walk. In the past 2 weeks I've driven about the same distance as 3 days of commuting in my old setup. It's going to be a signifcant savings in gas.

About the only service I took advantage of in MA was collecting back about $4k in unemployment insurance in 2002. Quick guess I would guess I paid in about $30,000-35,000 in state taxes over 7 years. I have no problem paying taxes but rationally with no kids and a wife I'm getting almost nothing back for my taxes, might as well try to minimize them.

I live in Windham, NH and work in Dedham, MA. It sucks. Oh, I have money, nice house, brand new car, and a senior level position in a growing company, but I have ZERO time to enjoy my life. I'm depressed and unhappy. If I had kids, they would hate me. If I move, I would live in a 2 bedroom starter home near Dedham. My work day is 10hrs and then another 4 hours in traveling each day. Yes, it's completely pathetic. I pay 6K in property tax, 6K in Mass income tax, and rediculous amounts of gas tax (which I can not write off). I need a new job in NH. Anyone have any positions in Graphic Design open? I am an Art Director developing product right now and I'm looking for some type of traditional Graphic Design role.

Lata,
Brian

On the property tax issue, yes NH's property taxes are high but it's not as bad as it appears at first glance. For instance, my property taxes on a two bedroom condo appraised at 120k are about 2500 a year (derry's mill rate is slightly above $20/1000, one of the highest in NH). Whereas a town like, say Andover might have a mill rate half what Derry has, but the same 2 bedroom would probably cost closer to 200k. So the taxes would still be around 2k a year.

Which is nothing so I'm not sure why people in NH complain.

You might pay $5-6k on a 2-bedroom Condo in eastern MA.

There are lots of people paying 5-figure property taxes on houses in eastern MA.

So maybe NH is higher then Wyoming but it's still not high and with no income tax the property taxes aren't so painful.
