Ok maybe I am just ranting here but why the hell in today's society do we still have babies having babies? You would think with the wealth of information, social services and birth control that this sort of thing would somewhat be prevented. WTF???

I have always realized that this is a problem, of course, but it recently hit home for me rather personally when I found out my 14 year old sister is 6 months pregnant. She's in her freshman year of high school, she's not even old enough to drive and she's going to be a mother in August.

I know that my mother definitely is the root of the problem here as she isn't parent of the year for damn sure. She lost custody of me when I was 12 if thats any indication of her parenting skills.

She should have been there to educate my sister, talk to her about sex, make sure she knew what was involved, etc. Now she has the odasity to make my sisters life a miserable hell by calling her every derogatory name in the book, calling her stupid, etc.

Sorry for ranting here but I really needed to vent.

The pill is a 0$ item if you're on MassHealth now and from what I know the amount of prescriptions getting filled for it didn't have any significant change.

Yet the 'morning after pill' has idiots prescribing a 30 day supply...wtf...

She is in NH on Medicaid where our mother can't support the family and even then... nothing was done. It would have been a $1 copay per month for birth control pills.

Not to mention the free clinic that provides education, condoms and healthcare for zero cost that is located about 2 miles from their house.

But I guess it takes too much effort to be a real parent.

It happens, often. Education and support is the only way to "fight" it.

You can thank wacko christian groups for keeping real sex education out of schools. They think that pregnancy risks and faith are a deterrant. Right.....

She has got a Long hard road ahead of her, speaking from experience.. You can only hope that the father is a MAN about it.. Nothing I hate more then Guys/Girls not stepping up to take responsability for there actions..

Thats actually the bigger problem IMO, people across all age groups not giving a shit about their kids -can only promote more bs like kids having kids, kids killing kids, kids eating kids, etc.

As far as I know sex education is still part of many school programs. And if teenage pregnancy is not a deterrant (in other words, if you fail to wrap your dick up) then you weren't that smart in the first place and no school program is going to save you.

She stopped having her monthly in November. My mother was the only one that knew, she did nothing. She started getting a little belly, eating a lot more and getting morning sickness, my mother still did nothing but poke at her belly and laugh at her.

It wasnt until yesterday when she had her FIRST doctors appointment, which included an ultrasound, that confirmed she was pregnant and confirmed it is a little girl.

Its too late for an abortion now.

I agree 100% with you here. Between school education and community efforts such as free clinics, etc. this definitely could have been prevented. Im gonna smack her upside the head as soon as this baby is born, and for the father, well, thats another story.

I definitely know about this subject, since my older sister had a child a week past her 16th b-day. The father wanted nothing to do with my niece and my parents took her in as a daughter.

My sister didn't have much of a hand in raising her and it took its toll.

I agree. Its the same thing with smoking. As a child they beat it into your head that smoking is terrible and will kill you, yet people continue to pick up the habit by the hundreds everyday

14 - Man - that's young... She's definately given herself a challenge... Or to be very blunt - shot herself in the foot (Note - the baby is not a mistake, and hopefully is allowed to grow up without feeling guilty). It's going to be hard to go out and see what the world has to offer.

You haven't mentioned the father yet - Does he know, and is he doing anything? Get her into the courts to get him signed up for financial support at the very least.

From what you've said of your Mom - it might be a good idea for your sister to look at some other places to live (foster homes, other relatives, alternative schools, etc). But - at 14 and pregnant that's going to be tough as well.

CT DCF takes the baby and in 24 hours he/she is placed in a pre-adoptive home. I am sure other states are the same. I am sure there are 1000's of good families who would take and care for the baby.

2nd somebody needs to intercept your poor sister and teach her how to get on in the world. (you or an aunt or something)

Frankly it sounds like nobody in that home should be taking care of babies

Why not give the father custody and have the mother in the courts to AT LEAST provide financial support?

I agree that education is ONE of the best ways to help stop this epidemic of kids having kids. One other problem is that healthcare is not available to everyone, although most of us have it probably there is a HUGE population in our country that don't. People end up resorting to other forms of less effective birth control and hence this epidemic. I'm not sure if any of you MA folks have been following this but Deval Patrick wants to cut funding on sex abstinecne classes. Now that's a bright idea (sarcasm)

Your mother I guess is a lost cause at this stage, but any 14 year old really should know the significancy of this situation and know enough to have done something about it early enough.

Us tax paying workers will have the pleasure of raising your sister and your niece now...great.

A little story here. When I was 15, I got my 15 year old girlfriend pregnant. As soon as we knew, I asked to meet with her mother and father and stood in front of them LIKE A MAN and told them what had happened and asked for:

1. Their forgiveness and understanding.
2. Their advice.

They respected the fact that I did the right thing by telling them. All of us discussed the situation and dealt with it the way we saw fit at the time.

I think nowadays the thing to do is to try to hide the situation and maybe you can get away with it long enough to just throw the child in a dumpster if you're lucky. Your sister got busted I guess.

Sorry if I seem to be judgemental, I hope your sister raises a wonderful child and is a wonderful mother. Either that or she puts the child up for adoption so that a responsible family can care for the child in a stable environment.
