Scary thing is, there are owners out there that actually do "train" there dogs to be mean. Instead of trying to suppress some of the natural aggressiveness of these dogs, they raise it in a way that brings it out.

In my opinion, there's no need to try and bring out the aggressiveness in these dogs. If the time comes where you need them to be aggressive (someone breaks into the house or tries to attack you), I have no doubt that they will do what they have to do.

Banning Pit Bulls in MA?

im so sick of hearing how fucking dangerous pits are. dogs (like kids) are products of their environment. if your an asshole then so is your dog.

i was at PETCO one day with the dogs and this 10 year old kid walks up and and says:
kid- is she friendly
me- yes
Sadie sits and kid proceeds to pet her on the head
kid- what kind of dog is she?
me- shes a pitbull
kid pulls his hand away and backs off while saying "those are dangerous"
yeah kid whatever. the only scared of Sadie is food.
it pisses me off that the whole "pitbulls are dangerous" thing is driven into our heads. when a pitbull attacks its all over the news. but no one pays attention when a lady and her dog are attacked by greyhounds!Owner injured and dog dead after Greyhound attack - Yahoo!7 News a guy at work was attacked by a st.bernard that jumped a fence while he and his 10 yo nephew were walking down the street you just dont hear about them

any dog has the ability to be dangerous. should they prevent certain people from owning them? sure. just like we dont allow convicted felons to own guns. but to prevent EVERYONE from having one is rediculous.

a sticker on my bus says "if you think pitbulls are dangerous, look whos running our country"
im with Sidewinder "ban stupid people, not dogs"

this is what my dogs do best

Many years ago I had a pitbull and he almost killed me. I was driving and went off the road fighting him off. He climbed through the steering wheel so I could pet him.

Sadie and Buster are probably two of the most well-behaved dogs on the planet. Everyone talks about how mean pits and rotties are by nature, but every one I have ever met has been a good dog. The way they are raised is way more important than the breed. The only reason you don't see (more) mean labs or mean chiuahas is because mean people don't want those breeds.

Everyone is afraid of my doberman... and just like pits and rotts its all in how you raise them.

Mostly, I don't care that they're afraid of my dog... it keeps the damn neighbor kids out of my yard.

in all honesty i think Buster and Sadie could be a dangerous animals. Buster hates motards almost as much as Chad does. I almost was suffocated when sadie laid on me while i pet her last weekend and my god i almost drowned when they were both licking my face. so many life threatening experienced with those dogs and it is all due to their mean nature.

I've got a Staffordshire pup coming in July. Had to change my homeowner's insurance to make it happen. It's ridiculous. If you really want to get mad, look at what's happened in Denver:

There needs to be a new class started in schools that teach common sense and rational thought. Everytime a problem arises in this country we resort to blaming the problem rather than the CAUSE of the problem. Its the dog not the owners, the video games and violence on TV, not the parents failing to teach civilized behavior. The list goes on and on, but the long and the short of it is if people would use some common sense maybe we could reduce these problems and incidents without making normal responsible people losing their rights. Sorry for the rant but im just so sick of losing my rights because some people are morons. Just my 2 pennies.

Ahhh I feel so much better, now i need a beer

Another real issue here is the fact that "Pitbull" is not really a breed, although it's most commonly used to refer to the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, and even the Bull Terrier get lumped in. My American Bulldog is a little on the small side at 110Lbs and often gets mistaken as a pitbull. With all the backyard breeding going on, who is going to make the call as to what is and what is NOT a pitbull? Once all the pitbulls are banned, which dog is next in line? Rotti's? Chihuahua's?

I grew up with a pitbull in the house, had another when I was 20, and have an American Bulldog now. I cant always tell what is and whats not a pit.

Try for yourself:
Pet PitBull - Legislation

BTW there was a video of a reporter for this site with a print out of this page asking a politician who is avidly against pitbulls to find the pitbull and he screwed it up.

+1 on education for dogs and the diff breeds. Most people wouldn't even know what an Am Staff was.. they'd just assume it was a Pit. The Pit isn't even registerable with the AKC last I knew, just the UKC>. unless they've changed over the past few yrs and finally accepted the breed. Although similar in appearace and such they have several differences.. but obviously unless you're a breeder/handler or an owner yourself you probably wouldn't be able to tell! I know I have a hard time that's for sure.

It's too bad that most people aka your average person, has basically no knowledge on dogs and the breeds...

Good dogs are good dogs.. it's the owners who are the reason for giving the breed a bad name.

I had Siberian Huskies.. and for some unknown reason, They're on the top 10 dogs that bite. THESE DOGS don't even "GUARD" the house. How that works out isbeyond me? Oh actually they grouped huskies into the Spitz group so any dog that slightly resembles these "Huskies" are considered vicious. lovely..

Right now we're trying to adopt a 6 mos old red nosed Pit.. poor little guys house just burned down and needs a home.. but one of my friends who's been looking for a dog is jumping all over this for this dog hehe. Thank god for good people

I don't know what's worse:
  • People that complain about pits OR
  • People that complain about people that complain about pits
It's like trying to put the drawstring back into a pair of sweatpants.

I have two chocolate labs - I love my girls.
I was bitten by a friends rottweiler for no reason 2 summers ago, dog bit right thru my hand... I know the guy - its his fault because of the lack of dicipline and exercise the dog receives... I am not scared of certain breeds and continue to know it is the owner. to be honest, the most aggressive and hostile breeds to humans in my experience from living in an apt comlpex with 99% dog owners is surprising (150+ dogs all around)... it is the small breed dogs, they are aggressive, they bark, i watched one small white curly haired dog bite a neighbor the other day on the legs for no reason. she happened to be walking by... the difference is the're small so people laugh about it or say oh he's a fiesty one! That's just wrong!

It comes down to one thing - the owners taking responsibility and putting the time into their pets...

There is a place in Lynn that has been breeding Mini-pits for years but they are in the 20-30lb range.
