Banning Pit Bulls in MA?

Representative Vincent A. Pedone, Democrat of Worcester, who has informally discussed a ban with committee members:
"He rejected arguments that dog owners are more to blame for problem animals.

"That's the same argument that opponents of restrictive gun laws give us: It's the person, not the gun," he said.

"But the fact of the matter is that if you reduce the availability of a weapon, whether it's a pit bull or gun, you reduce the number of incidents.""

- This guy has an agenda - Outright dangerous... When's the next election in Mass? Get him out...

Idiots. No discussion needed. Bad owners mean bad dogs. We don't ban kids in bad neighborhoods, why would we ban dogs?

Banning Pit Bulls in MA?

As long as there are owners out there that have no idea how to raise a dog like a pitbull, politicians will have more and more reason to push their agenda. I have a rotti myself and would trust leaving her alone with my two younger daughters, but that's after LOTS of training when she was young. Certain (if not all) dogs, raised untrained can be a threat to society. Owners who decide to purchase these dogs and not take the time and effort to train them properly is akin to some guy purchasing a handgun and not taking a class on firearm safety.

The majority of rottis, pitbulls, akidas, and mastiffs I have seen have been extremely well trained, but all it takes is one clueless owner to ruin it for the rest of them.

Rotties rock! Great dogs. Mine is very good around people, but unfortunately not so good around other dogs. Solution? I don't let her run free around dog's she's not comfortable with. The handgun anology is 100% spot-on.

Don't let a few rotten apples spoil the whole bunch, cause some of us arn't giving up our dawgs.

Yup, I remember her from last Tuesday - great looking dog! Mine is the same way - awesome around other people (unless you're a shady looking character... she just knows), but she'll go nuts around other dogs. Usually it's just to play. However, as soon as the other dog shows its teeth and gets aggressive (happened only once), I need to keep a close eye on her.

Raise her right and you won't find a more loyal dog. But watch her in her younger years - she'll test you and they need to be reminded that you're the alpha dog.

Since we're posting Rotti pics, here's my ferocious, lazy, dopey, lap-Rotti, Dharma:

(It took me about 20 minutes to annoy her enough to look like this)

Manda Pant's two Pitts, Buster & Sadie are ferrocious... I almost bit Buster's tongue when he was trying to lick my face, it coulda been a bloodbath. And Sadie, don't get me started on her. She practically killed me when she almost fell asleep while i was scratching the flesh off her ass.

... hmm... on second thought, it looks like i'm the one that's dangerous... shit

I've had dogs all my life except for the last 3 years when I was living in Ipswich. Now that I have the room, labs were one of the first things we got!

I've always wanted one of each color!

Yeah - they look like killers...

Any dog can be loyal and lovable - and any dog can be dangerous. It's all in the way the owners raise them. There are some traits to each breed, but those can be controlled. I've seen my neighbors German Shepard whine like little puppy while their little girl played dress up tea party with him (he was fine when the cup cake came out). I've also seen Labs that you couldn't get near.
