Ann Coulter's Book

So, at the request of fellow forum member richw, I have read the first Chapter of Ann Coulter's "Godless". Before I go on, I must say thanks, as he did send me the book for free.

That said, it will be returning to him before I get much further.

What a complete and utter waste of paper. She just call herself a Nazi and have it done with. In the first five pages, she accuses all "liberals" (she really likes generalizations) of being liars, baby-killers, and "generally limp wristed". She states that most liberals are not religious ( ) , but says that their religion is hating America. Her idea of a factual citation is to quote the Bible. (I wonder if she knows how many different versions of her sacred book there are.)

I was very interested in reading this book, because I was curious about its contents. I have always been a big fan of Al Franken and Michael Moore, and I wanted to see what the other side of the fence had to say.

The big difference I noted was that while Franken and Moore obviously give a very slanted point of view, they offer some justification and some factual info. Additionally, they never act as though they hate any of the opposing-view politicians they discuss. Usually, in fact, they make a point of saying that they do *not* hate members of the opposing political party. Ms. Coulter's book makes "liberals" (i.e., anyone who does not think exactly like her) seem to be almost demons, bent upon ruining the world. She also decided that for the purposes of her book, Jews and Christians are the same thing. This made me giggle.

So, yeah - not a fan of Ms. Coulter.

Can anyone recommend a non-hate-manual book by a right wing author?

Ann Coulter Is a crazy witch, not taken seriously by most of the main stream Conservatives, unless ofcourse you want to talk about RUSH ... Read some of Bill O'Reilly's books, I think you will find him to be more in line with writing fact based opinions like your friend Mr. Moore...

It is getting to be a challenge to self label oneself a 'Republican' So much of what we see today from the party flys in the face of what I thought the Republican Party stood for. I am uncomfortable with the lunatic fringe on both sides setting any important planks in the campaign. And Coulter is pretty close to the fringe conservative side.

And the Democrats....doh...last election all they had to do was try and draw a very few independants who were straddling the line over to their side. Instead, they allowed the 'fringe' full voice which drove those who could have made the difference clearly into the Republican Camp.

Regardless of how Hillary strikes you, she is running a brilliant campaign so far. Scary actually! She is positioning herself smack dab in the middle and as such may be successful in attracting those undecideds. (She is attractive to women - obviously. And also many young people, and minorities...traditionaly low turnout voters, but...who knows...she might get em out!)

I just finished reading a Biography about Ben Franklin. Man, talk about a bridge builder! Great man!

I was just down in Arkansas and while I was there I went to the Clinton Presidential Library. They wouldn't let me take out a book!

The people in Arkansas DO NOT like the Clintons... That Library looks like a "double wide on stilts"

If Hillary becomes President...

Well I won't say what I would do (Big brother is watching)

But it won't be good.

Hillary will be the nominee

Surprising she has a slightly higher negative with women voters then men

I think the number is 52% Men and 55% women said never to Hillary. Sounds good but they would have to vote.

Hillary is a near communist but knows she has to appear centrist. Hillary care of 93 shows who she really is. Move on will vote democratic regardless.

Scariest thought is that while poke a demorat and they say Global Warming pkoe an average neo-con and they say abortion. Now the religious right is rumoring they will put up a 3rd candidate if the Republican's mount any pro-choice candidate (Rudy). That would sink the Republicans. The the Demorats get in and legalize all hispanics resulting in a 70 year political domination..how long till Chelsea is 35 ?

They are recruiting in Australia and New Zealand.

More athiests need to speak out and let people know we vote. I believe that the figures which quote 80% of Americans as calling themselves 'Christians' are skewed because athiests don't answer honestly. I am sick of the religious right driving so much of the rhetoric...yet, don't want to align with the secular left either. Doh....I'm screwed....

Most Christians are libertarians by nature.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Be nice to me and during the rapture I will throw you a rope

Is abortion a good thing... probably not
Is out of wedlock babies a good thing White 25% and Black 70%
De-evolution not a good thing

Being a libertarian I don't want the Govmint dictating to a women's crotch.

Religion and an all seeing God is the best tool to control barbaric behavior

The children will be happy knowing there is:

A heaven where someday they will see Grand Pa again

That bad people will get there come uppance some day by a just Deity.

They would gain comfort by praying or asking for help from a compassionate Deity.

Good behavior has a benefit and reward

FYI Only folks that take their interpretation of the Bible as absolutely literate have a problem with evolution and the age of the earth.

The Darwin guys still need to find your missing links and transitional creatures.

My personal theory is environmental stress altering gene code in similar ways. This would allow for creatures as a group to change in both predictable and group ways. This as opposed to a single creature breeding a new master species.

None of this requires the absence of a God it just threatens organize religion and their dogma

Lefties have as much Dogma as anybody

ALL PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED
usually the answer is NO

Actually, most of the most barbaric behavior is done in Gods name.

Children also like to believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. But they eventually grow out of those idiotic beliefs....

It doesnt require the presence of God either....

There are a few good books out there but I highly recommend "God Is Not Great : How Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hutchins

Neil Peart in "Roadshow : Landscape with Drums: A Concert Tour by Motorcycle" says it very nicely too near the middle of his book. (Good read even if you just love Rock and Roll and Motorcycles!)

You confuse God's work from what humans do in his/her name.

Most religious people are good and use the tenets of religion to guide them in doing good.

It is specious reasoning to say because of an infinitesimal percentage of bad that religion is bad. When I pee in the Atlantic should you stop swimming in it ?
