Guess it's time to vote for Regan again! (not that I was old enough to vote for him the first 2 times)

Also if Carter had backed the Sha instead of letting him twist in the wind
maybe things would be different and we would still have $2.00 gas.

as SIde Show Bob says
"I will be out soon, they can't keep a Democrat out of the White House forever."

So, wait - two days ago I wasn't worth speaking to because I'm from Vermont.

But today, you are correcting my slightly overly verbose post with your own overly verbose post that basically says, "Yep, its your imagination." Holy schnikes Batman, you're a little bit wacky, but I forgive you.

But since you've opened that box, and spoken to the stupid Vermonter, tell me more. I'm intrigued. Was politics always this way? Was it always all or nothing?

I remember thinking that both candidates sucked in the Bush Jr./Kerry election, but not in the Bush Jr./Gore election (aka before 9/11 and before Gore went off the deep end with his concern for the environment). In fact, I was quite torn before Bush and Gore, because I didn't *mind* either one, and both had issues that irritated me. But I dont remember being blatantly frightened of being led by either one.

I dont very well remember either Clinton elections, because I was barely of voting age, but I also dont remember my parents freaking out about either candidate. (My father is a hardcore Democrat, my mother a retarded Republican who just votes for whoever the Republican party puts up.)

Who do you like? re: reps

Before

Lydon Johnson killed Kennedy and stole the White House the country was pretty much a white guy affair. We dickered about a few percentage points of taxes and Union vs owners but generally we knew good from bad. It was easy to come together on any major issues and there was no point in real back stabbing.

Johnson wanted to be the NEW ROOSEVELT so he set upon the war on prosperity, Vietnam, civil rights, EPA, OSHA etc. The result of this was to polarize the electorate into to evenly divided camps. With a 50 to 50 split then racial, ghey, Hispanic etc. all could be that critical point or 2 that put you over the top. To me only civil rights made sense the rest was a giant bureaucratic nightmare designed to destroy our industrial base and security.

So now we are left with any small group capable of throwing an election. The children suffer from the NEA the people suffer from CSEA unions.

SO we are stuck with this level of BS until somebody does something where Joe Six Pack white guy clearly sees what way to go. If somebody looses by 5% then these minorities will be insignificant and no longer patronized.

Note Nixon a repu. did sign these things into law in 1970 and civil rights were boiling by the end of the 50's

He's basically inferring that our current elected official is the only thing holding peace up. As if to say that the instant anyone else gets in power things will be happy the world over when it comes to our Wacky-Iraqi's and Muslim extremists.

He made no mention of anything else in the ad. He just explained what happened back then. It will concern me if people actually think that is how the world turns.

I took that commericial as an attempt to show how one person could make a difference... do I believe that would happen again if he was elected... no... I as others here don't remeber a lot about when Reagon was elected... but I do see Rudy as a candidate that isn't planning on backing down which I like...

" Mayor Giulianiç—´ goal will be to kill or capture the al-Qaeda leadership, destroy the capabilities of the group, and discredit its radical ideology."

anyway... I'm not a huge political guru... but I like what he's saying... and hope he would stick to it if elected...

enjoy...

Also because the release of the hostages had fuck-all to do with Reagan, and Guiliani either knows this and is a goddamn liar, or he believes that crap and is completely batshit insane.

I might vote for Ron Paul, he's a bit of an extremist in his rhetoric but his actual record shows him to be willing to tone it down to get stuff done. I haven't decided whether to vote for Paul or Obama yet, wish I could do both.

Re: Who do you like? re: reps

i saw huckabee on leno..he reminds me of the republican version of clinton....i think he's all done now though....

romney is actually looking better to me....i'm not buying all the crap they are throwing at him at face value... one thing i think is funny...he is getting a pass by all the republican's for flip-flopping when they all deionized kerry for it...

couple reasons why romney is looking better to me...I heard this on the radio the other day and it made sense to me....how many times have you said we need a business man in there not a politician...thats what he is and his track record has been, everything he touches he improves...he's done it in the private sector, for the olympics and to an extent in Mass. where only 16% of the vote is republican....he got rid of bulger and amorello, shot down the illegal immigration bill and made the staties check immigration status.....

i think the reason he isn't as popular as he should be is that he is not a politian by nature....but i could be way off

where the fuck is guliani...he needs to kick it in gear ....

If Paul is going to make a move, it will be in NH. All of the media stuff I've read calls him a "dark horse" to win, because they dont have much of a measure of him. NH being the type of state it is, I think its *possible*, but not likely, that he might surge from the back and pick up some momentum.

Hopefully.

Re: Who do you like? re: reps

Ron Paul is pretty interesting. He's got so many loopy ideas -- most of which I disagree with -- but you've got to give him enormous respect for standing up against the invasion of Iraq. If I were a single issue voter (and I almost am) I might vote for this guy for this reason only.

I heard on the radio last week that Republicans are worried that Paul will lose the primary and then become an independent with tons of grass roots support. If he does this he might become the Nader of the right.

I agree with Bigred that Romney might be the best candidate of all, almost regardless of his views. He seems to be the only one with a good track record on running successful organizations, and he does seem to improve everything he touches.

No smoking, I leave for the police academy this weekend.

I've always been somewhat conservative, and Ron Paul fits my political view the closest. I liked Bush Jr. better than Gore in their election, its the stuff thats happened since that made me not like him.

Example:

I like stong, central Fed govt.
I dont think people with money should be penalized with dramatically higher taxes - its like a penalty for being successful.
I dont like "supply side" economics, I think it makes a the gap between middle and upper class larger.
I do like affirmative action.

I'm a confused little mutt when it comes to politics.

he IS a republican, his views are not conservative, they are libertarian (stay out of my pants)

I doubt he will run as an independent, more likley he will endorse George Phillies

I don't agree with a lot of his positions...I'm a shitty half-assed Libertarian. I do believe the Federal Government should be a shit-ton smaller than it is though, and he's the obvious choice for those that want the government out of their personal lives and a SMALLER balanced budget.

I was told Huckabee believed in biblical inerrancy? Hey I believe in freedom of religion and I'm not going to hold that personally against him, but I don't necessarily want a president who believes (and acts) as if the bible is absolutely 100% historically and scientifically accurate.

Also, he seems to imply quite often that "Teh Gayz" will bring about the downfall of our society -> There’s never been a civilization that has rewritten what marriage and family means and survived.

I mean, fuck, what does that even mean? What civilization has ever attempted to "rewrite what marriage and family means"?

the president cant do anything on his own....any "bible thumper" legislation has to pass through congress...

so again...what is the worst thing that could happen? I am more referring to the beating Romney is getting about being Mormon...it's silly if you ask me...making an issue out of nothing..
