Re: Why is there no big deal about this? Finally someone who sees my side of the matter. Yes we're screwed, yes, the government could be taking advantage of the money rolling in, yes, I wish things would change (anyone who doesnt owns stock in Exxon) All this is kind of what I was hoping to make my point. |

anyway im piss poor so im piss to have to give up other things. let's say you make 100k/yr. $3/gal. no problem. $5/gal. no problem and even $10/gal. no problem. lets say $20/gal tightens your belt, makes you give up your suberban. you can't make more cause you're in your 50 and can't retrain. nevermind the folks who make less than you. what would you do then? |

Re: Why is there no big deal about this?Blame the media. They cover the damndest things wouldn't you say? If it bleeds it leads and last I checked, gas profits don't bleed. If the media wanted to push this, they could. The public seems to only care or react once it's up on the TV, hence the lack of reaction to this. |

Not to say that they don't deserve to make money, either, but going back to the fact that I am almost flat broke and I educate the next generation... It's a little sad when I have to refinance my condo in order to afford the mortgage and i work in education, while some dude who owns stock in an oil company is rolling in it. There is something wrong with any country that values oil more than our kids' brains. |

What I see as one of the significant problems with public education is the teacher's union which promotes mediocrity by fighting for contracts that base pay increases on seniority instead of merit. Every contract I have heard of doesn't have any form of merit based pay increases. Everything is based off of how long you have managed to not get fired. This ensures that the mediocre teachers will get their raise every year and not have any fear of being replace. You can work your ass off helping kids in ways far beyond what is expeted in your position and you will get the same raise as the lazy ass burnt out teacher that has been there forever and already makes 50% more than you. This same union has also made it virtually impossible to remove these bad teachers which just perpetuates the problem. I would love to see an education system where the underpeforming teachers are shown the door and and the ones that make the cut are rewarded with larger pay increases and given incentives to be the best they can be. |

Re: Why is there no big deal about this?isn't their net profit only like 10% ? with the higher gas price your govnment is getting 3 times the money out of you ? Isn't the EPA and the friends preventing any growth in supply ? The oil company gets you to work the government is trying to put all manufacturers out of business, so who is really your enemy? |

Re: Why is there no big deal about this? You children wouldn't know this but 1/5 of dollars came from chemicals prior to the EPA. Only grandfathered plants remain now 40 years old. Most were rebuilt in 3rd world countries with NO controls so on a global basis the result was MORE polution with less economy here. The last plant attempted by Dupont was not finished when the EPA changed the the allowable effluent rendering the design and plant non functional. They pulled it up and rebuilt it in sight of the border in Mexico. We DO NOT burn higher sulphur coal in out electric plants because of alleged acid rain. Well 20 years later after it was stopped there is still acid rain but the dicks won't admit they were wrong. 60% of your electricity comes from oil burned in what used to be coal plants until they foistered this crap. So alot of oil that would have been vehicle fuel is burned in coal plants because of their asshole theories. Additionally electric plants on the east coast could burn anything because the smoke would end up over the Atlantic. Inside the USA borders are 500 years worth of coal at 1/2 the price of oil. The oil company executives have been saying for 20 years that there was an intercept point comming between supply and demand and if they were NOT allowed to explore and refine there would be a world wide shortage. The lefties still forbade drilling and refining. Right now Cuba and Mexico are pumping what should be our oil out of the gulf. the whole hippy tree hugger mentality has any industrialist with the attitude F U 2. If the Al Gore gets his way your children will face a 3rd world economy. Every manufacturer will be gone within 15 years, everyone. The only thing that can save us is burn coal as a stop gap or permanently and if you believe in the human caused global warming only 1000 USA nuke plants would stop it. 1 is currently under permitting Hooray! Kick a tree hugger in the nads |
