Clemens hearings

Wow!

Prior to this hearing I would have told you Clemens was lying, now, I don't think so.

Some things I got out of it,

1.) Trainer= bad liar

2.) Evidence? Not admissable.

3.) Roger is a GREAT public speaker.

What do you believe?

Re: Clemens hearings

I watched for maybe 5 minutes, and clemens contradicted earlier reports at least twice. I dont buy any of his excuses, like he talked to Pettite about HGH for his wife. I dont think McNamee is 100% truthful, but I believe him a LOT more than Clemens, theres just so many, granted unprovable, signs pointed to him, and as they say, where theres smoke they'res fire. Will he be convicted of purjury, I doubt it, cant prove anything, do I beleive he never took steroids, not a chance in hell.

And yes, I think the government has more to worry about than this, but I blame Selig 100% for letting it get to this point. And with the amounts of money involved, somehow someones gotta do something.

I think we granted them (MLB) above the anti-trust laws, therefore the only governing body are those that granted them above the anti-trust laws.

In other words, congress took the responsibilty of law enforcement upon themselves.

But, I agree.

I'm in 100% agreement there...

Also, I haven't heard anything on it in at least 2 weeks, but I know that Sen. Spector wanted to re-open the "Spygate" investigation! WTF do our tax dollars have to do with that?

can you explain this? maybe then i'll understand why the gov't can butt their head into this...

what is the issue? the players used steriods...ok, now what? Are they going to bust them for drug use? i just dont understand what the problem or crime is and what the solution or punishment would be... i just dont get it...

why is it ok for the WWE and body builders to use them?

Re: Clemens hearings

Dont even get me started on spygate, yes we were caught, yes we were punished. Every team tapes signals, Im sure the coaches all cover their mouths when they call in plays just cause they have bad breath. Im sure no former coaches denied they did it either. Oh, and as for Mangini

On Wednesday, though, it was reported that the Jets had cameramen removed by the Patriots from field level at Gillette Stadium during last season's playoff game between the teams, won 37-16 by New England. Mangini denied that they were taping signals, and said the Jets had received permission to have the cameras.

So he's allowed to tape too, but he had permission. So if you ask permission you can tape.
Still no need for a congressional investigation.

Not really any more than I did, I don't fully understand it either. Anti-trust is basically saying we gave them a monopoly.

I'm sure a real baseball fan (I've only started watching four years ago) like Stoneman could be more explicit.

Agreed.

My only hope is that this doesn't open the floodgates for all other major sports. I would hate to have more tax dollars wasted that have been already.

Re: Clemens hearings

The reason the government is involved with steroids is because any player who bought sold or used steroids violated a federal law. I dont think this is so much about who used them, but tracking down who used them in order to get to the dealers and sources of the drugs.

Spygate is diferent no federal law was broekn. THe nfl has a right to govern its own league with its on laws, as long as it isnt letting anyone violate federal laws. Baseball knew steroids were runing wild and the government wants to find out why selgi and MLB allowed this to happen under the watch. ITs like being a witness to a crime, if you dont come forward you are viewed as in accomplis

Re: Clemens hearings

From ESPN.com today, about the spygate investigation

Specter is particularly concerned about how the taping might have affected New England's games involving teams from his home state in the 2004 postseason.

Can someone say, fishing for votes and support in his home state? Once again, he just wants publicity.

Also of note, the Steelers consider this a complete nonissue, they had as much if not more to lose if the Pats cheated, and taped things they were not supposed to. So its this one guy is whats pushing this along.

ok, so this is about locking up drug dealers? I thought the HGH's they are accusing them of using were legal at the time they were using them?

say they were illegal...is the drug problem in this country about steroids? seems to me this kind of effort should be focused on more serious drug offenders...

Re: Clemens hearings

We keep trying to come up with legetimate reasons why this is happening, and there is no legit reason. They're doing it for publicity. Sure they could spearhead anything going wrong in the country, but odds are there wont be sweeping changes, and it wont be broadcast all over the news like this sort of thing is.
How many people have heard of Senator Mitchell before the Mitchell report? How many people had heard of Arlen Spector before the spygate thing? Probably very few, now theres not many people that dont know their names. Guess what, congress isnt always doing the best ofr the country, they're doing the best for themselves. Its the way it works.

Re: Clemens hearings

Randy and Big Red. HGH is illegall to buy on the street, has been for a long time. THey were just not explicitly banned by MLB. HGH is prescribed by dr's legally for people with dwarfism and growth problems. However most of the "prescriptiosn" were phony and or written for people who should not be taking them.
