Re: prostitute

Prostitution is illegal in Clark county which is where Las Vegas is, but it is legal in other counties of Nevada.

Re: prostitute

Prostitution is not legal anywhere in the United States.

Tolerated? Maybe.

Legal? Not a snowball's chance...

Prove me wrong.

Re: prostitute

this piece of info here is kind of important if you want to argue disease.

----------------
Since 1986, when mandatory testing began, not a single brothel prostitute has ever tested positive for HIV. The mandatory condom law was passed in 1988. A study conducted in 1995 in two brothels found that condom use in the brothels was consistent and sexually transmitted diseases were accordingly absent. The study also found that few of the prostitutes used condoms in their private lives.[4]

Re: prostitute

Like I said, the operative word is "tolerated".

Quote:
As of July 2004, brothels are illegal under county or municipal law in Carson City (which encompasses the entire county), Douglas County, and Lincoln County. Eureka County neither permits nor prohibits licensed brothels and does not have any. The other 11 counties permit licensed brothels in certain specified areas or cities
Quote:
The big casino towns of Reno and Las Vegas have worked to expand their tourism base by attracting families to the hotels and casinos. Accordingly, the state legislature has made prostitution illegal in both Clark and Washoe Counties and law enforcement agencies have tried to eliminate the once rampant street prostitution

And that's just from skimming...

Re: prostitute

If you read through that you see that it is legal in a licensed brothel.

It's illegal if outside of a licensed brothel.

Yes it's "tolerated" because it's legal. There are laws on the books in Nevada that regulate the industry.

Tolerated does not mean legal.

The state's not dumb. When it sees money it will make any adjustments needed in order to get it....hence the licences, taxes, etc.

The laws have not changed.

Just because the state issues permits, doesn't make it "legal" by definition, it makes it "allowable" (aka "tolerated").

Actually, many women who are prostitutes are forced into it by their pimps. They are addicts or alcoholics and come from abusive or otherwise highly disfunctional homes. Their journey into prostitution is often not voluntary and is generally more unpleasant than you can imagine. One might argue that all the above is true BECAUSE it's illegal and that legalizing and licensing prostitution might eliminate the horror that it is today.

I'm not smart enough to know the right answer but I am smart enough to know that the idea that prostitution is a victimless crime is naïve and fails to see it for what it is...abuse of women.

My 2 cents....

In the great words of a great friend of mine.. You don't pay her to come home you pay her to LEAVE...

I will let him speak up and take credit.

Dude, I liked your citation of the 3 F's much better.

Successful prostitutes will never tell you they're getting abused. They're the ones in control. God bless 'em.

Re: prostitute

What is this, "pick on bergs" night?

Alls I'm doing is interpreting the Wiki entry and discussing it...in that time, all of a sudden I've developed this "uncontrollable need to be right"?

Jesus Christ.

Thank you everyone at NESR for making me realize this....I never knew the intraweb could be so helpful in finding out what's been so very wrong with me all my life......I need to right all the time at all costs...

Since some of you sound so undeniably confident about the legality of prostitution, I'd like to suggest you travel to a place in the US where prostitution is supposedly legal, go call an officer of the law and make him witness you soliciting sex for money...feel free to post the results here.

Oi?

I'd post a definition of "soliciting" but I have a newly developed complex about having the need to be right all the time......you're going to have to look that one up yourself bud...
