hell did you know that a cell phone company has the ability to turn your cell phone on without there being any sign of it being on. they can listen into every conversation you have, and this is all now accessible through the proper law enforcement channels.
if you believe that you are a moron. when you have your phone powered off, it cannot communicate with the nearest bts. therefor the bts does not know your phone is there and cannot communicate with your phone. and cannot send a command to turn it on.

now if we are talking about having the phone on already and a call is place. then yes monitoring does happen. but it is done at the msc level.

the gov used to have equipment placed at each bts, but that was to catch cloned analog phones.

I am sorry. What i meant to say was they can monitor you without it looking like there is anything going on. I miss worded it. my bad.

If your phone is on, a call doesn't have to placed. from what i have been told they can monitor through your phone like a wire tap. Its what i have been told by verizon techs and another non mentionable source, lets just say i may know where it was used once and some bad shit happened.

Re: Entrapment?

we've just lost too many freedoms, when I was in high school, it was ok to bring guns to school, it was ok to smoke dope out behind the gym, everybody was happy and we didn't have all this stupid control freak shit going on

at least that's the way I remember it, but it was the sixties can't say if I really remember or not

Talk about an unecessary invasion of privacy...

That is exactly what should result in a theft of service charge...but nothing is illegal if you don't have anyone willing to enforce/prosecute.

Re: Entrapment?

I stopped reading the posts after the first page, but I saw a couple arguments of "what about rights to privacy?" etc.

How much right to privacy do you honestly believe you have these days? Even though laws protect your right to privacy, there are numerous ways to get around these rights as a LEO.

To extrapolate that further and apply it to this story, the kid is a minor... minors/juveniles are not granted the same amounts of rights as adults.

The whole right to privacy spiel has nothing to do with this.

Re: Entrapment?

I think I'm going to become a high school teacher just so I can confiscate cell phones.
