Rumor from a somewhat reliable source

Fuel Rationing

it's all going to happen during the last few days of the Bush presidency,

not only gasoline rationing, but also diesel, fuel oil etc.

have you noticed lately, gas stations updating the software in their pumps

70's rationing was voluntary

no, more like the coupons during WWII, except coupons will be replaced by fuel debit cards,

better claim as many business & commuting miles as you can, leisure petroleum based fuel will be a thing of the past

yeahhhh right. What will happen with tourism? People not traveling at all anymore to visit places, because we can't buy gas? How about people like us who travel to see our families 5 to 7 hours away? Pfft.

The economy wouldnt go to shit either if there cant be any deliveries, Im sure that would just help things, people would have a TON of money cause theres no products to spend it on.

Well he said that would affect only leisure gasoline...people who have to gas up for work wouldn't be much affected by it I guess. Still, doesn't make sense. Would be nice if we didn't need gas to fuel our cars, but so far there is not much other option now is there? Most cars who run gas/electric are not affordable to most, and apparently not that worth it either as I've heard it cost quite a lot of peanuts to use electric to charge up the car. Combined with gas prices...well. It might be better for the environment, but no better for the wallets.

Re: Rumor from a somewhat reliable source

Who's to say whats leisure though? I work in a small family business, and we have a van to do deliveries in, why cant I just say all that driving is work related and just use it for personal use? Will there be someone to police things?
Never mind if people have to use their ration of gas to get to work, they wont drive to various stores to spend said money, thus the economy goes to shit.
How bout we tell the tree huggers to go fuck themselves and drill for oil in the artic, that should last us a while.

Re: Rumor from a somewhat reliable source

they will base business miles on your documented past business miles

if you can't document your history, yer shit out of luck getting ration credits

I don't pretend to know exactly how it will work, but it all ties into the national ID and documented fuel requirements and vehicle use

at least I can document 25,000-30,000 business miles per year, mostly on my motorcycle

the announcement of the rationing will be even more unpopular than anything he has done so far, but likely in 50 or 100 yeas he will be looked as as our savior that forced the populus to demand alternative energy from the energy companies

How about our consumer based economy?

This sounds like a last ditch effort to fuck it up for everyone.

seriously, what is there to gain. the real regulation needs to be placed on big business to source alternative energy to produce for the consumer, not the other way around.

This idea will bankrupt big and small companies.

I think this alone will bring down our economy along with every americans respect of the governmental system.

too bad, you will have to use public transportation or use you rations, or get a horse and make a 5 day journey

tourism is the least of the countries worries

rampant spending caused the Soviet Unon to break up back in the 80s. the US is on the edge

And i am sure it has everything to do with our fuel consumption and not our corrupt politicians.

Factor in the war which most americans do not agree with and i think you'll find your rampant spending is not on the laps of the citizens but the very government that is "trying to protect the people"

bullshit, i for one not only do not agree with this idea, but i will help to lead the riots that ensue. this is ridiculous.

<- thats me saying by to democracy and hello to socialism.

next thing you know your kid will be born with predetermined careers because the gov't needs em.

it's been done here before, history has a way of repeating itself when the populus thnks they are immune

how many here remember the Whip Inflation Now, and the federally mandeded wage & price freeze of the 70's

IM sure the guy who has made millions if not billions off of oil is suddenly going to cut the amount of oil used in the united states. Highly Unlikely.

My question is why would a government that wouldn't revise the CAFE standards suddenly start rationing fuel?
