I had a rather interesting conversation over the weekend about maximum age difference between couples. I'm curious as to what people here think about this topic.

In your opinion, what do you consider the "acceptable" difference between the ages of an involved adult couple? Is age really just a number?

My mom's husband is 16 years younger than she is. I've got $500 on them being divorced by the 3 year mark.

i just find it hard to see people of such a large age gap having much in common. let alone when you are gathered around all friends from two separate age gaps. it can work... if both minds are at the same maturity level and they have some passion & common interests/goals they both share that keeps that fire burning and continuing to burn for years to come.

then again... maybe girls are looking for that attention from daddy that they never got or maybe boys are looking for someone to replace their mom... and have sex with them. in that case, +1 for feud.

I'm 3 months younger than my wife. Until her I always dated younger, 2-3 years at most.

Seems to work ok for us. 5+ years in the bag so far, (2 Married). We have our spats and our differences but I think we are both mature enough to deal with them. I love her to death, mostly because she puts up with my crap.

When I got divorced my girlfriend was 20, I'm 30. I had a lot of fun but we really didn't have much in common. I mean she didn't even know the joys of when the first Nintendo came out. The sex was FANTASTIC but other then that I could not relate to her. After awhile it became to much and we went our separate ways. The only thing I gained was the awesome pictures and movies we made. She made me feel young but the thing is she could tell me which Backstreet boy she had a crush on. I only remembered the New Kids on the block.

I'm for the whole 'age is just a number' deal. If ya get along, have common interests, don't think the other person is an idiot.... why wouldn't it work?

People already come from such vastly different backgrounds and life experiences that age really shouldn't play a huge factor. Actions (and reactions) I think are what is important (aka maturity level, hot-head, laid back, etc)

If the rides fun - take it out for a spin.

Ya just gotta be gentle on the 'old' men... they don't move around as quick as they used to

I agree 100%, I've yet to date a guy who was my age... always older, but I think that's because I was in college by 16 and out of college by 19. Even now, I have nothing to talk about with most guys my age. At the moment I'm finding the 28 - 32 age range to be perfect for most guys. Old enough to have their shit together, young enough to be fun.

Let's see . . . I divorced my ex who was almost my age. He turned out to be an immature, cheating asshole.

I swore I would never date anyone my age or younger again. However, I'm now dating someone 7 years younger and am happier than I ever was before. I have to agree with those that said age really has no bearing. How I am treated is the deciding factor.
