Fellow Streetriders...

I have to share this with you because it is a RARE experience with an aftermarket motorcycle parts dealer. Recently, we've had several conversations centered on radar detectors, and mounting systems for them.

I've seen all sorts of systems, and I've been carefully planning my set-up for the R1. Anyway, Alison comes home on a couple of weeks ago with a "surprise" - a new Valentine 1 radar detector. YES!

Now...all I had to do is figure out the perfect mounting system...

With the limited cockpit space, I had a challenge ahead of me. I REALLY liked the Stem Stand for the R1, but...I have a Scott's damper that is mounted on top of the steering stem nut that this radar mount stand uses. I asked all around on different types of detector mounts. I visited a half dozen websites, and talked to the manufacturers of the detector, and Radar Screamer that I bought to go with it.

BOTTOM LINE? Go to www.stemstand.com and get ready to be impressed. Sure, their products are AWESOME, and they make them for all of the major Japanese bikes...but their CUSTOMER SERVICE IS INCREDIBLE!

This business is owned by one MIKE LEE. I wrote to him on e-mail, and explained that I liked the Stem Stand, but couldn't use it because of my damper. I told him that I really liked his "M STAND" which mounts to the inside bolt of the mirror mount - inside the fairing. It was orignally designed for the Kaw ZX12R, but I told him I'd like to buy one if I could "adapt" it to my R1.

What next...? Mike calls me personally, and said that he "made a custom mount for me, and is shipping it today". He had to get one of his friends to bring his R1 over to use as a template to make sure that the platform and mounting kit he built was a perfect fit for my bike...and he did!

This guy is AWESOME. The kit arrived in two days, and I have installed it with my new Valentine 1, and the Radar Screamer. You are ALL going to have to check it out when we ride together. It looks AWESOME, and is a truly custom, professionally engineered piece.

ANY other R1 owners - take it from me. This guy Mike Lee is the real deal, and so are his products. Top flight meticulous engineering, and attention to detail - and CUSTOMER SERVICE. DON'T SETTLE FOR SOME RINKY DINKY WANNA BE RADAR MOUNT - CALL MIKE. HE HAS THE R1 TEMPLATE NOW, AND WILL DELIVER YOU A TOTALLY CUSTOM PIECE FOR AROUND $60.OO!
