Scorpion EXO-700 helmet review

Still not seeing a lot of info on this helmet, but the reviews that are out there are very positive. I'll add my input as best I can.

Scorpion is still a small company, and to be honest nobody near me had even heard of them when I began to ask around. A local Honda dealership owner that goes to my gym even laughed and just told me to shut up and get an Arai. Without the $500 to please him, an Arai was not an option. A few other local shops had similar responses.

Wanting to prove to the world that they were ignorant, I bought one on ebay anyways. I paid $152 shipped for a black and gray Raider EXO-700.

I guessed on the fit, but it was perfect. I bought a large, and I wear about a 6-3/4 size fitted hat. It is a bit more snug than my older, autocross-use-only HJC which is also a large, but that could be due to the new foam in the Scorpion.

The graphics and vents are cool looking in my opinion. One of their selling points is the easily-removed face shield. I guess if you work for the company you could get it on and off in 10 seconds like they claim, but for us mortals it might take a bit longer. It is much easier than my old HJC for sure. New visors go for about $35, and because they're so rare, there aren't many places where you can get them cheaper. Ebay very rarely has more than 3-5 Scorpion helmets listed, forget about shields.

I wore it for about 40 miles on my first ride on Monday, and it was awesome. Sitting upright on back roads, the wind noise is very quiet in my opinion. I had the shield open a crack at first because I wasn't sure about fogging, but when I finally shut it I was very surprised at how quiet it was. And there was absolutely zero fogging. As far as venting, I had all the adjustable vents open all the way, but I could only really feel air moving around my chin/mouth area. That said, it was about 80 on Monday and after 45 minutes of riding I didn't do a lot of sweating. So the upper vents must have done something.

So all in all, I love this helmet. Scorpion has said that the only difference between their helmets and a $600 helmet (an obvious stab at Arai) is $400. Without having ridden in an Arai, I can't confirm or deny. But it's a boatload lighter, better looking, functional, and cooler than any HJC I've ever owned, for about the same price. I'm currently looking for an EXO400 for my wife, since there is a long wait for the EXO700 in matching Raider graphic form. Two thumbs up from me!

Their website is www.scorpionusa.com. Pay no attention to the silly-hot cartoon broad they call Dr. Bigcans or something. I'm also editing my review to link to several other non-me reviews I read before I bought mine.

Can you tell us what safety standards they adhere to (what stickers they have from safety organisaions)?

Trying to see if they are ok for racing.

Scorpion EXO-700 helmet review

I have the same helmet...but my review would not quite be the same. I also bought it last season and had it with me at VIR. The manufacturer had a HUGE tent there and they were promoting pretty hard. I got approached in the crowd cause I had the helmet in my hand and the rep asked me for my opinion.

Since there was a crowd listening, I asked if he wanted my honest opinion and he did. I proceeded to tell him that I was not terribly impressed. I gave him my feedback about a few things...like, the windshield should have one more rachet so that I can just vent it..the first click puts the shield just high enough to change the visability. Wind noise to me...was more than my HJC. It seems that there are pockets in the ear area which cause the vented wind and the wind that I tend to get up the back to 'swirl' in the pockets..I actually get ear aches if I wear it in the cold. The padding seems to be lacking in the forehead area so that after wearing it a while it drops down just far enough to impair vision. The top of the opening seemed to not be angled properly and I had issue with this helmet at Loudon, while coming through the bowl, I could not see up the hill.

The rep was VERY interested in my comments and took my name and number. He happened to be from RI and I spoke with him again after returning home.

Maybe this year they made some of these improvement, I have not checked out this years model.

Scorpions are now being carried in most shops...I have seen them at Bettencourts, BCC, Motorsports etc. They should be pretty easy to find.

I still have and use mine, but now in its second season (due to the timing of when I purchased it, I have not worn it for a full season yet) and the padding has compressed so much, that the helmet is now too big. Unfortunately, I don't think I can fit into a size smaller since getting mine off is quite difficult if I want to keep my ears!!

Scorpion is DOT and SNELL approved.

Ah, I knew I forgot something. They're both SNELL and DOT approved helmets.

ok i have a few questions for you seeing as you are a lady. do you have long hair? my ex has long hair and if she wore it up or down made a huge differance in the way the helmet fitted. the shape of your head has alot to do with fit to. her head was small and narrow and would cause more of a gap in the ear area witch led to more wind/swirling. i have a big ol irish pumpkin head so i fill out a helmet a bit different. the padding seems like its a little soft if it give's out after a few hours of wearing it. how many hours/miles do you think you have put on it? they say to change helmets every season but i connot afford that! thanks

a lady?? I don't know about that...but female, yes.

I do infact have long hair, but I wear it the same way each time I ride, that could actually contribute to the wind going up the back since I wear it in a low ponytail or braid. If I put it too high, its like a knot inside the helmet and a headache is just a matter of time. I probably have about 6k miles on the helmet

ya she could not wear it in a pony tail at all or it hurt her head and pulled it out while taking the helmet off. in retrospect maybe that was a good thing....

Scorpion EXO-700 helmet review

I've had the EXO-700 for a few months now and I have had none of the problems mentioned above. The visor has never distorted my vision when one notch up, my liner has held up fine, and I've never noticed wind blowing in my ear, so maybe they've made some changes in this years model.

Also worth mentioning the liner is swear absorbant and is easily removed and machine washed. An option only found on the top of the line models by Shoei and Arai. Also the visor willl never fog up, even w/o the breathe guard installed. (comes free / helmet)

Has a lot more options than a $300-$400 model of Arai and Shoei. Only downside: Shoei seems to have better periphrial vision and Arai is slightly lighter.

...of course everything is a matter of opinion.

Scorpion EXO-700 helmet review

i picked up an exo 400 for the track/racing.
I love it- fits great, is very comfortable. Has a great field of vision.

got the helmet and a tinted shield all for $150 through some negotiating at a local dealer.

I would recommend trying this helmet out
