Derry Cycle =squids..

Derry Cycle appeals to the squid market.

I wanted to see what prices they had on helmets.. Their top of the line helmet manufacturer was HJC. (now I race w/ an HJC but lets be honest here.. they are a good helmet but no Arai or Shoei)

He had absolutely NO leather jackets anywhere insight.

So as I was in there looking around last night and all was well.. The owner came out and starts feeding details about how he is going to dress up a brand new GSXR-1000. This particular bike is Black and Yellow. He had the yellow/black fade micron in hand (which I am fine with) It was when he said that he was going to swap the front (bridgestone) tire off for a yellow Tomahawk tire.. Yet leave the rear stock bridgestone.

I asked him why he would do such a thing? He said cause it looks cool.. (umm its my opinion that it is GHEY) but to each there own.. I then asked him if he would be liable for an accident related to inconsistent tire compounds F/R due to 2 different manufacturers specs and a tire that was not on the bike when it left the factory. He basically threw me outta the place telling me that I didn't know what I was talking about.

Umm.. ok.. I dunno what I'm talking about.. I only worked at a dealership for 3 years. Anytime we "set up" a bike off the show room w/ exhaust, wheels, flush mounts etc, it was a zero mile, titled bike. Also, it is an actionable position if a dealer changes tires, brakes, chain, sproket or other mechanical device on a motorcycle that does not comply with manufacturers standards. I guarantee you that the local suzuki rep would have a shit if he knew what this guy was about to do to this bike.

So if you are a squid and want to buy your next Gixxah, wear your hat backwards, lock your arms puff out your chest, and all in all want to look like vanilla ice on a bike then by all means go to Derry cycle. If you are a rider that cares about saftey over looking cool then purchase your bike else where.

Its just the difference between folks who ride (and or drive a car) on the track, and the rest of the world.

People who are into track days have a very different set of priorities for their vehicles, as do posers. Whereas most of the people on this site would put an Ohlins shock higher on the list of goodies than a set of chrome rims, other folks wouldn't know what to do with a trick shock.

Unfortunately, the poser-type/squidly folks are usually the ones willing to pay big bucks, and thus keep dealers in business. The dealer will probably get a mint for that bike, even though it is likely an evil handling SOB. The rationale will be "Oh, it wont be spending much time on that front tire anyway." (Insert squid laughter here.)

Dont bother trying to argue with them, its like trying to teach a pig to sing; you'll waste your time and annoy the pig.

...and the guy who buys that bike will have bigger chicken strips on it then you do on yours

in the end it is all a matter of opinion...just cuz you dont like something doesn't make it stupid or wrong....just different

what differnce does the compound of the tire going to make when the most this thing will get leaned over is on the kickstand...a "rider" wouldn't buy it...but someone will...

as for the stock...small shops can't afford to stock all kinds of shit...esp. when their clientel(sp?) could give 2 shits....why bother...

I would agree that is not the shop for you...and probably myself...but that doesnt sound like this guy did anything too bad...just doing his thing then you started criticizing his style and opinion..in his shop...I woulda kicked you out too...

Thats the term I heard just recently !! POSER ,, but I thought it was ment for the H-D riders ??? I guess its used for is both???
I was thinking about that this past Sunday when I heard all the bikes at Kelly's Harley ,,,,, their Blessing Of The Bikes gathering . I went by a bar not far from where it ended and a bunch of " POSERS " were outside ,,,,, POSING and smoking in all the H-D Garb . It was kind of funny .
I've got about 100,000 miles on V-Twins sooooo , I guess I can give a Fair stab at them . Poser ,,,, hhhhmmmmmm ????

I see your point and working at a dealership for 3 years the poser clientel were most of my bread and butter.

But here is a hypothetical.. suppose a person who maybe has no taste (IMHO) has an ok riding ability. They flick a bike into a corner that has an altered set of tires that are not matched by manufacturer or compound. The front tire gives up.. (which was changed to look cool at a dealership) and the rider crashes. The dealership then becomes party to the accident. All other variables excluded.. speed, weather, road conditions etc.

That was my argument to the owner.. I didn't say anything about taste.. like I said, to each their own. The tire coulda stayed black for all I cared.. but carlessly mixing and matching compounds on a bike is silly. Especially when you don't understand what you are doing. Clearly this guy has no clue about grip.

I have run on bikes with a soft front or med compound rear on the track.. they are ok.. but 1. they are same manufacturer, 2. I kinda know what I'm doing 3. they may heat cycle differently and the average street rider is not going to know that his front tire is possibly cooked before the rear.. or vise versa..

Then to insult me and tell me that I don't know anything.. umm.. yeah.. thats fine.

The way I asked my question about being liable was stated more as a concern for him and his dealership.. "Couldn't you get in trouble for that".. scenario.

It was at that point my ego took over and I presented my side of the argument which I think hold merit. (of course I am biased)

Here's another hypothetical - don't buy that bike.

The dingle that shells out 10k+ for the bike with the yellow front tire is responsible, end of story.

My tires aren't black enough. Maybe I'll go home and put some used oil on them, so they are extra black.

Yeah, that'll look cool.
