A negative experience with Cox Racing Group (Cox Radiator Guards)

A negative experience with Cox Racing Group (Cox Radiator Guards)
I'd like to share a negative experience that I recently had with Cox Racing Group so that anyone considering doing business with them in the future may be able to save themselves a headache.

I contacted Andrew Cox via email inquiring about a guard to fit the MB Motorsports race radiator that I recently picked up. I knew it wasn't a common sized radiator, so I expressed that I would be willing to pay for a custom made guard.

Pictures, exact (as requested by Andrew) measurements, and dimensions were sent via email. Andrew replied about a week later with a picture of a 2 piece guard set.

The transaction was completed and the guards arrived a week later. The bags were labeled for a 2009 R1. The top guard was about 2 inches short on each side (meaning it did not cover the vulnerable section of the radiator). The lower guard was 2 inches to short vertically and another 2 inches short horizontally.

I didn't even have to remove the guards from the sealed bags to confirm that they didn't fit. A quick email to Andrew led to a response saying to return them for a refund. I again inquired about having a set made to fit the specs that I provided with no response from Andrew.

Fast forward 3 weeks later (2 weeks after Andrew Cox received his sealed in the package radiator guards back), and I have my original purchase price refunded minus a 15% "restocking fee".

I contacted Andrew about this fee, and that's were it all went south. Emails went from helpful and reassuring to blunt and rude. Had this been my mistake, or my decision to return them because of any other reason than they didn't fit, then I would have been more than happy to suck it up and pay a restocking fee.

However, when you pay for a product that doesn't fit (even after pictures with dimensional specs are provided to the manufacturer), I think it's unfair and bad business practice to hit a customer with a 15% restocking fee.

So for anyone considering doing business with this guy, I would think twice. Customer service is horrible after he has your money and his business practices are some of the worst that I've encountered. Not to mention his product is nothing more than over-priced expanded aluminum mesh.

Just out of curiosity...what is an alternative?

I will be mounting mine this week. Didn't seem to be another game in town.

Cost is like $2 to grab some fencing con Home Depot and zip tie it to your radiator.

Feel free to look at my radiator next LRRS round.

The frame of the radiator? The guards are to protect the radiator from debris puncturing the lines.

If you need to protect the edges of
Your radiator from getting punctured, then you might want to check where you're riding.

Jim is spot on. You can can get expanded aluminum pretty cheap. Then you just cut it to fit and zip tie it through the core in a few spots. I liked the idea of having a finished product with a border on it for a clean finish. I knew COX had outfitted MB rads on some AMA bikes awhile back, so I thought this would be a hassle free experience. I'm just going to cut my own now.

here is an example of one (not mine) fitted with the mesh between the tanks. This guy used lockwire instead of zip ties.

That is WAY neater than mine. Still serves its purpose though.

Last round I noticed that Doucette's were home made jobs too.

    I haven't gone either way.

never realy thought those would provide any protection from something big enough to puncture a radiator
