So I might be gettin a dirty toy... Got a line on a CR125 but before I go through w/ the deal, since i probably SHOULDN'T spend the money, I wanna at least make sure I'm gonna get some good use out of this thang... So is there anyone that's willing to take me under their wing & help me put some hours on it or what?

no brainer.... no.

while it would get you around the track , it would be a bitch.

a 125 mx bike 2 stroke no less... is (in my opinion) useless in the wood inless it is open trails. single track rocky slow stuff your screwd. bring extra plugs.

if you should be spending your money on other things (this is my father son speech) do the right thing and hold off... save and buy soething better suited to what you are gonna use it for

i am assuming trail riding and not wide open sand pits quarry mx track stuff. and your built like a stick and all ( kinda like me) but the last 125 i was on was a gutless turd trying to hill climb in a quarry.

anywho.... just my fatherly $.02

see ya aug 3rd
hmm.... defeinitely food for thought, I appreciate the imput.

Anyone care to respond to this? I'd really like to do open track kinda stuff more than tight slow trails, but i'm sure i'll mix it up some.

Depends more on what you guys do... slow tech stuff or high speed open stuff?

The CR is a way way better deal. I was going to buy this bike before I bought Jeff's.

I've ridden it and it's in killer shape and comes with Pro Tapers and moto pants / jersey.

Pete could ride it for 2 years and probably still MAKE HIS MONEY BACK easy on the resale.

While a 2-smoker isn't the easiest thing for a newb to learn on, it's super light (compared to a cankerous WR440) and I rode one when I was 14 years old. I think even lightweight Peter can handle a 125 if 14year old stickthin Alex could....

Here's the hot setup. Why don't you TEST RIDE said machine and make choice then. Maybe you'll get a face full of roost and say 'this sucks'. Okay good. I'll get White CR and pick you up Wed morning to go riding some moto at Rocky Hill... prepare to get worked.

Lets do it! 600 miles of fire roads, start to finish!

How many gallons does that little thing hold?

You can ride a 125 anywhere you want to go in the woods, it just might take a lot more work than other bikes. I rode my rm125 all over foxboro state forest (think lots of rocks, roots, and hills) and never had a problem (other than me sucking at riding). Just keep the bike running on the powerband and use the clutch and you'll be fine.

I just picked up a blown up xr250r too, so if i get the financial motivation to get it back together anytime soon i'll go riding around foxboro/wrentham with you.

If I can ride a YZ250 that didn't idle at the time, you can sure as hell ride a decent running 125 on tight trails.

Easiest trail bike I ever owned was a little KX80. Small bikes are just plain easier. Very few instances where smaller people need more power than a 125.

In fact, if you don't take it, let me know, I may want it

Pete K. What do you mean "set up for the woods"? Is that suspension, or are there motor mods you made to get it more rideable?

I'm toying with picking up a CR125 cause they're cheap and I already know a great deal about working on them. Half the parts interchange with my RS125.

The suspension is what needs the work, my motor is stock, just a pipe and silencer. You can ride it stock and be ok, if you want to ride fast or for a long time you will need suspension work. You can try mine and see what I mean.
