Unhappy

The dirt ride that wasn't.

So, I had been looking forward to doing some dirt riding on Memorial Day for about a month. A couple of NESR folks were supposed to be coming up, and insisted that no one else be invited because they didn't want to be held up by slower riders. I then learned Friday afternoon via a post in this forum that they apparently weren't coming.

So, I shrugged it off and got together with my neighbor Pete, and we were all set to do some trail riding today. I met up with 4 other riders, who were friends of Pete's and we took off at 4:00 today.

The terrain was pretty wet and nasty, but what the hell, its a holiday weekend. We get about 3-4 miles into the woods, up and down some nasty, rocky terrain, and end up running into a part of the forest where there seems to be a downed tree every 200-300 feet. At one point, I came across one of the other riders stopped in the middle of the trail, sitting on his bike, not running. I asked if he was ok, and he said he was fine and gave me a thumbs up. So I kept riding until I came across the next rider in line, who was off the bike and taking a break. We hung out for about 5 minutes, then 10, then 20, until someone comes up behind us. Its Pete, my neighbor, and he says that the guy that was stopped in the trail fell while trying to cross one of the trees in the trail, and broke his collarbone!

We turn around and help the guy get to a junction, where we call a friend with a 4x4 truck, and they come in and pick him and his bike up. He says he has broken his collarbone 4 times already, and he will be fine, so we should keep going. We decide what the hell, we might as well.

About 10 minutes later, we are headed up an incredibly steep, rocky, wet hill when Pete falls off his bike. He makes his way back down the hill, and realizes that he has a problem; his front sprocket is so wasted, the chain is just sliding over it. So we are now in the middle of the woods, and his bike will barely move. Thankfully, he knows a way out to the main road, so we ride about 5 miles home (on completely unregistered bikes ), his bike barely able to move from a stop.

We gave up trying to ride dirt bikes and began drinking beer.

Its early in the year, I suppose.....

I was riding my friend's KDX 220. He left it here a year ago and I've been breaking it.....I mean riding it......ever since.

Which reminds me, anybody know where I can get a good deal on a set of bars and a gas cap for an 03 KDX 220...

If you plan a ride around people that "don't want to be held up" , I'd say it's time for you to find some new riding buddies
If it makes you feel any better, myself and a few other NESR members had a perfect weekend of dirtriding and drinking I got close to 200 dirty miles in this weekend

I went out for the first time this season today. After an hour, it's like I never took 6 months off.

WOW is my suspension stiff as shit....no falls though!

Quit gloating, asshole.

My "motard" will officially be transforming into a straight-up dual sport as soon as the new rear shock and spring get here (since its a lousy motard), and I'll hopefully get some good dual sport/dirt rides in this year. Already talking with some folks from advrider about a dual sport trail that runs Vermont north to south.

So, dammit, I'll be catching up to you soon.

I have a small camp in central Maine, Moosehead Lake region. We usually go up there for the holiday weekends, though I'm not sure I can make them all this season.
