how to take apart top end on XR80R?

Anyone know how to get the top end off of an XR80R?

Is there a trick to getting the timing chain off?

Does the timing chain even need to come off to remove the cylinder head/cylinder?

The bike smokes blue under WOT when it gets hot, so I'm trying to get to the rings/valve seals to see if I can clean things up.

this is how far I got:
    -remove plastics
    -remove gas tank
    -disconnect carbs
    -remove cylinder head/top (2 bolts)
-remove nuts to remove the assembly that controls the valve operation
-remove bolt that provides additional support in securing the cylinder

now I'm stuck...it seems like the whole valvetrain assembly will come off with the cylinder, but with the timing chain attached, it's not going anywhere...and the screw that adjusts the timing only makes it a little loose, but not enough to take off the chain

is there a master link or something?

how to take apart top end on XR80R?

There is no master link. I would suggest getting a manual to clear up a bunch of the following:

There should be a timing cover on the bottom end of the engine where the sprocket attached to the crank lives. Take this cover off while turning the engine over and look for timing marks on both sprockets that should either line up with marks in the case, or links in the chain that are a different color. Next look for the chain tensioner - they're usually spring loaded and if you take the chain off one of the sprockets without locking or removing this you will never get it back on. It could look like a bolt or knob lined up with the chain.
Once all the timing marks are know (for putting it back together right) and the tensioner is removed the chain should be slack enough to get off the cam sprocket. If not, take the bolts out of the end of the cam, pop it off, drop it down a little more, and the chain should come off. Tie a lead of safety wire through one of the links so when the chain drops dowm into the case - you can get it back out.

    Hope this helps.

Just pull the two 10mm bolts off the camshaft sprocket. Done.
