OOOH THAT SMELL!

Don't you just love that new bike smell?

I have only ridden it 5 miles so far just up and down the road a few times.

pleanty of power, the front whell comes right up in 1st, trying it in 2nd is a bit boggy but that may just be me doing somthing wrong.

did I mention its fuel injected

This was what I wanted back when I had a wr250, a street legal version.

I called 8 dealer ships and finally found one, the others had either not ordered any , or the ones that had them were only on the floor for a week or so. I ende dup out in greenfield at Ray's cycle center.
nice people I got a no nonsense deal on it, we went to grab some lunch while they prepped it and on our way we went.

Good thing the trails are too wet right now, so I can break the motor in proper on the dirt roads.

Yup , already placed and order for
handle bars
bar guards
knobbies (d 606)
undertail (break light / turn signal)

I'll have to stop at my local dealer to order a factory skid plate as I haven't seen any aftermarket ones yet.

Then add on the sales tax you need to pay to register it if you're not a NH resident...sounds like the exact same deal Sean got

The law with Freight & Setup fees is that they may only be imposed upon first-time new bike buyers. After that one-time exemption, you'd have to be a complete hee-haw...

Cool bike, Sean.

Re: OOOH THAT SMELL!

SO I have e mailed every aftermarket skid plate maker I could think of ,and no one makes a skid plate for the new wr250R , so I called yamaha usa in california , a product specialist told me that a skid plate from a wr250f would fit. I said are you sure about that, he put me on hold for 5 minutes , came back and said yes, even gave me the part number.
I figured if the GYTR one would fit , than an aftermarket one would too. I bought one online , got it, and it didn't fit, so I returned it, bought the GYTR one from a dealer and that didn't fit either, not even close, the frame shape is totaly different , so I returned it, called yamaha back to say WTF? I'm told that oops we thought it would fit, and that we are sorry but accessories won't be out until end of summer.

I asked my boss at work if he knew a place local other than home cheapo that had aluminum plate I could buy, he asked what size and what is it for. Then proceeded to hook me up with a free piece of 1/8'' plate in the size I needed

THank you very much!

I spent a couple hours last night fabbing it up and put the finishing touches on it this morning, it isn;t the prettiest thing but for not having a sheer or a press etc, I think it came out okay for a hand drill, jig saw , bench vice, dremmel , and hand a held grinder.

That'll do! A couple of cuts and folds would make it sit nice and tight on the sides...

I thought about that , but if I cut and folded I would want to weld the seams together, I have a small cheap stick welder that isn't set up for aluminum, I figured I was pressing my luck asking for the plate, I didn't want to push it and ask for welding too.

I'll try it as is for a while, my biggest concern was a hit on the bottom, especially the drain plug.

Re: OOOH THAT SMELL!

I don't think you'd even really need to weld it. But either way, it'll do the job nicely. Good work.

At first, I thought you were talking about Maxima 927, Klotz, or some other Castor oil.
Mmmm, Nice Bike, though! I want one!

Re: OOOH THAT SMELL!

you really should cut the sides and weld it so it's angled up. it will protect the water pump better and, most importantly, be less dangerous. having the metal out the sides like that could cut the side of your leg. god forbid you crash and your leg gets slammed between it and a rock.
