Gotta Cut The Road Back First...

First weekend in May we'll be cuttin' the road back and clearin' some big-ass trees that fell across it so we can get trucks (& trailer) down to our property in New Durham (NH). If we have time we'll start clearing a parking area big enough for a handful of cars w/ trailers on wunna the lots too. Anyone that helps will be privy to dirty riding the area with us for years to come. Chainsaws, anything with a winch, tractors, pick-up trucks all welcome...

interested in helping of course.

Are you kidding me. i have been reading about the serious amounts of land you got, and i would gladly help out to get a chance to rip up some trails, asuming i can get my dirtbike and quad running this summer.

but hell yeah i am down to help out, as long as there is bonfires to follow, fueled by serious amounts of gasoline.

so may 3-5th?

dude great timing we're signing on our house that friday and will be spending every available minute working on the house for at least the bulk of the summer. i have a truck, wheeler w/winch, buying a chainsaw etc too. i'd love to help but the timing couldn't be more wrong.. atleast there's good dirty riding in the area.

I'll see what I can do to make it up there... Weekends are usually spent w/ the woman and with this being a race weekend I'm not gonna see her much, if at all.

Re: Gotta Cut The Road Back First...

For those serious about helping out, great! Thank you. I'll confirm the date(s) with Big Shirl, but that's the weekend we were talking about...

Mikeb-no worries. Been down that road, it's never ending. Where again did you buy?

Pete-if you show up, I'll let you piss on my shoes IF - and only if you actually help out. Mebbe I'll wait 'til we're done cutting back before I let you piss on me. Also, bring the girlie. Big Shirl won't mind the company. Maybe we can get 'em to rub their bewbs together to help keep us motivated. Maybe? Okay, maybe not...

Anyone that DOES show up and pitch in is obviously welcome to crash at the Crib...

No worries. There's not nearly enough work to take everyone up on their offers. One tree with some decent buttresses is partially blocking the road - you may remember that one. But a larger, rotted big ol' one fell across the road just before our property. So we'll be moving those and just hackin' away at the undergrowth and saplings that're starting to fill in around the edges of the road...

Re: Gotta Cut The Road Back First...

Okay, I'll definitely be out there mosta the weekend. Just about everyone I had lined up hadta bail out for various things that came up. It's all good...

Technically, we can't ride those 'trails' 'til mud season is announced over by the local road agent - which'll most likely be mid-May. They're Class 6 discontinued roads but still fall under his authority. I'll have my ute-quad out there primarily for winch use & pulling, but that isn't to say I won't errantly (?) end up going for a ride...

My primary objective is gonna be to cut-back & clear the 1/4 mile or so of road down to my property. There's plenty of undergrowth & brush that needs clearing and some decent sized trees now lay across the road. My goal is to get it cleared enough that nobody would feel uncomfortable driving down to it. As it is now, if it weren't for the downed trees I'd have no problem taking my pick-up down there *IF* I still had it. But that's me, others may feel differently...

If time allows, I'll be starting on a parking area big enough for a coupla vehicles with trailers and enough room to turn around with 'em. That'll most likely involve felling some meduim-sized trees and cutting 'em to firewood lenth and stacking on pallets for now...

The only mechanized vehicle I'll be using for now is the 4x4 'Cat. Big Shirl's still not convinced we need a tractor. I'm REALLY hoping that changes soon!

Re: Gotta Cut The Road Back First...

How'd it go? If I were closer, I'd really try to help you out... I do some maintenance on my local spot (mostly trash pickup and clearing debris), but I'm reluctant to do any trail building/repair as I don't know the owners...

everybody who owns land needs a tractor! Every guy knows that...

Re: Gotta Cut The Road Back First...

Ahhhhhh...all better now! I'd have no problem bringing someone down there now in a cage. Took the better part of an afternoon, but the payoff is well worth it. Summa the neighbors came down on their horses for a quick intro and were totally psyched we were clearing the road. We already knew how much Tovah likes the 4-wheelers, but Canaan just can't get enough of 'em. All the little dood wanted was to be on it and moving! Well, that and run the chainsaw...

Next up - turnaround area on wunna the lots so we can get in there with trailers...
