Am I using the "search forum " button the correct way?

    It seems pretty simple
    click button
type the word lets say "401" as in the 401 k thread in the off topic forum
hit return and voila the thread should show up/.

but they dont. I get no results.

vBulletin forum search sucks. I don't think 3-letter words even work. Searching "401k" got results.

I usually search Google for "searchterm nestreetriders.com" if I'm trying to find something on here.

(Or "searchterm site:nestreetriders.com" if you want to get fancy and restrict all results to this domain, pretty useful)

Yep, this. The vBulletin minimum word length is set for 2 but because it uses a mySQL fulltext index I think the effective minimum is 4 characters. And it sucks. Google wins again.

Looks like you can use a wildcard in the search too... Searching for 401* got me the 401k thread in the results (which has "401-k" in the title)

Yep. I stopped using the search function and use google almost exclusively for all sites, especially forums.
    It is what it is.
