None of the threads are gone. Like I said, please be patient. There's an active discussion in the mods forum about where this whole ordeal is going, but like most of you the mods are scarce on weekends so the discussion is going slowly. You can expect some answers soon.

I concur with OutDoorVTGuy (who is rumored to be a techno-brainiac) there are no technical or technology problems here, just need to regroup our process under a new set of administrative rules ...If the community continues to feel that it is worth the effort. I will admit it was quite a surprise to see the VTBN just disappear *poof* ... we can deal with change pretty well... surprises take a little more effort.

Although... I *do* think that having Vermont-centric forum(s) was & still is a good idea. Dang...I was just starting to get into Tag-O-Rama & VTBN ...I was even going to make some lame-ass name tags for OutdoorVtGuy & me. But I hope that we can recoup the lost history of Tag-O-Rama and some of the recent threads.

Let's avoid the BA (Blame Assessment) & move directly to a Solution Deployment if the consensus is there.

Basically, we need to get back to ragging on Parker to restore karmic balance. (Sorry Parker... I don't know you well enough... but needed something that everyone could agree on to reduce the stress levels, thanks in advance for taking one for the team ; ...feel free to return the favor... I work in IT. I am used to the role "Punching Bag/Crash Dummy in support of the Public Good", it is one of my notable skills ) )

I give Doc, Catamount, & other big props for being active participants... I do hope we are all patient & work on keeping the Vermont Street Bike community open, friendly, inviting, informative and social.

    Re: VT Threads?

why should a state (or group of members) have their own sub-forum?

it was understandable when it was just related to the VT Bike Nights, but then any person from VT would post any thread in that sub-forum because they "wanted to keep it for the VT crew". it was a cluster from the beginning & should be gone.

    Re: VT Threads?

I don't see why any state shouldn't have their own sub-forum if they so ask and the space is readily available.

There are numerous topics that relate very specifically to residents of that state that don't necessarily concern others, but still everyone has full access, so why not?

It seems to me part of the draw is the fact that there is a regional forum for VTers. Outside of the VT section, I see VT posters once in a blue moon.

Apparently VT is not part of New England

    Re: VT Threads?

I personally like having a VT section, simply because it seems like the majority of the riders on the site are in the MA area, and the events are a long ways away from us. Having a regional section for events that are pertinent to us is helpful.
That said, I think regional sections are a good idea anyway, for more than just VT.

Ideally, I'd like to see the VT section come back and I don't care who moderates it.
Alternatively, the important threads should at least be revived and pulled out. I have no doubt that you guys will do that though, so not too worried about waiting a few rainy days.

+1 for liking the VT forum.

Not sure why there is all the hate for the VT forum... it keeps our local ride chatter out of the your way and lets us keep the local chatter, local.

Do you really want to click into a bunch of "Burlington" threads only to find that they're all about Burlington, VT and not Burlington, MA?

Because then more and more people get to decide what goes where and overall forum organization starts to go to shite. People start posting bike maintenence type threads in their state forum because they're looking for someone local to come help, while someone from a different state may have some valuable input, but wouldn't otherwise see it posted in another state's subforum.

With that said, I don't have much of an issue with VT having a sub-forum, so long as discussions in that sub-forum are purely VT related. VT's it's own damn country anyway.

Huh? If I post a thread in the VT asking how to change my oil it'll still show up on the NESR home page ("recent threads") so you can put in your $.02 on which oil is best.

And then, when I ask if anyone has a torque wrench to borrow you'll notice that the forum it's posted it is "Vermont" and so you don't need to offer yours up because I'm 3 hours away.

Still more people I agree with... Its' *not* that we want to segregate the Vermont discussions from the rest of New England. The purpose would be to *aggregate* discussions that have the Vermont geography as a common element..i.e. Vermont Bike Night, Vermont Rides, Vermont Dealerships, Vermont Riders, Vermont Road conditions... etc... If the forum taxonomy is too flat, it becomes difficult & time consuming to navigate & communicate about local issues & community specific topics.

If I was planning on riding through NH (Crawford Notch, Kancamagus) , I would look in the NH section. In the Berkshires, I would look for a Western Mass section. Craigslist has geographically-specific sections for good reasons but you can still look around the other areas quite easily.

again... I care but I will patiently roll with whatever forum gods dictate.

Ok...I admit... you did make me laugh out loud with that one.

Catamount also made a great point regarding the use of built-in forum features (i.e. recent threads) for people to see topics at a regional level & provided a great example for a location-specific group/sub-forums (i.e. borrowing tools) Booyah!

That being said...I do wish I could be at VTBN tomorrow but sadly I will be out of town picking up my daughter at the train station in Albany, NY (in the minivan...sigh)

Not all members use the NESR home page. I know I don't. I typically just go to the forums that interest me. Regardless, it goes back to forum organization. Generally, the fewer geographic sub-forums the better for the whole of the community.

Bottom line: the VT Sub-Forum is merely "hidden" from view and will likely come out of retirement under a different name due to the fact that the VT guys seem to have a pretty tightly knit sub-culture here on NESR. And I'm cool with that.

What I wouldn't be cool with is a sub-forum for every state in New England.

The forum has been reopened as "Vermont Events" and it will be (lightly) moderated by NESR staff in the same manner as the other forums. There may be some cleanup of the VTBN related threads but everything else will stay.
