    Allow me to introduce myself...

What's up ladies and gentlemen? My name is Ian/Slowride, I've been around bikes a long time and just recently got back into them. I'm not sure if it was a midlife crisis or what but 1 day I walked in my garage looked at the VW I was building and said OK I want another bike (I had rode my niece's husbands bike a few times and got the bug back), a moth later the VW was gone and I had this...

Enter the 2004 Yamaha R1, I love this bike and I always wanted and R1

So I'm no stranger to forums from my years of having an obsession with cars, trucks or whatever and I joined the R1forum hoping that I would have a positive experience like most other forums. Well I will say that there is great information there however some of the members are 1st class Dbags. So while perusing google I found a link for NESR and I read some post and checked it for a while and decided to join, I'm really hoping to have a more positive experience than the other forum and hopefully make some riding buddies.

    Thanks Slowride

    Slowride,

Welcome! I hope you have a better experience over here, too. Haven't been around here too long, but everyone that I have met here have been very kind. Nice looking R1 btw! We have some pretty good rides that leave Seacoast Sport Cycle. It would be great to see you on one of them!

Welcome to NESR. You will find that this forum is unlike most. I think it's because so many people know each other personally and can put a name to a face. So, when are you taking that thing to a trackday?

    Greetings.

I find that NESR'ians tend to be up-tight about the gear, particular about their machines, into doing their own wrenching, and all-around track addicts.

Welcome Slowride! You're in south east Mass? Hopefully not too far away to do the Seacoast rides. Although we have a hand full of riders from the Cape that make those rides but they have to get a real early rise to get up to Derry NH.

Re: Allow me to introduce myself...

Thanks guys, I would love to make it up to a Seacoast ride with everyone. I'm not sure about a trackday yet, I would go and watch and get the feel for it first. I was big into drag racing when I was younger but recently the VW's made me corner happy and that is starting to show when I'm on the bike.

If your even thinking about doing a track-day you should go and check one out. Every organization I know of will allow spectators to watch for free. I used to drag race cars, then bikes and riding on the track is uncomparable.

Yeah I figured as much, I would love to go watch some events. I'm confident of my skills behind the wheel of a car but I KNOW I'm no where near ready for a track day event, especially on that bike...maybe just cruise a few laps around a track at first.

All in due time, I'm not in a rush. But I do wanna watch some events.

I just started riding again when I bought the R1 before that I would ride my friends bike here and there. I would say I've been riding on and off for the better part of 20 years, nothing serious though. (Couple street bikes and a lot of Dirt bikes) The last time I personally owned a bike was 2003, I had a 96 Fat boy (a.k.a. Fat girl...long story) until someone ran a red and stopped in a panic when they realized it.

Welcome to the forum first off! And nice looking bike for sure. Looks wicked clean!

And as far as track days go...there are multiple groups at the days. At Tony's Track Days we have 3 groups in New Hampshire. If you are a first time track rider you have a special first timer classroom session that teaches you the basic layout of the track as basic track safety rules, flags, etc. Then you have a follow the leader session with small groups behind a staff member to show you proper lines and reference points. This session is slow and is meant to just get you confident in the track layout. Then after that there are classroom sessions between track sessions that focus on everything from body position to throttle control, cornering technique, and beyond. As you get more track time and improve you will be allowed to bump up to the next group which will be with faster riders and the classroom will then discuss more advanced techniques.

You can come up and watch, but doing the real thing is better. You don't need 20k miles to come do a track day. I only had 3-4k on the street before I started racing.
