Welcome!
Listen to the instructors, don't try to "win" the practice sessions, and check any sort of ego at the door. There will be some well experienced guys on the track taking the penguin school as well, with countless track days under their belt. Most of all though, have fun, its a blast and get ready to be hooked.

A man of many names...Jay, Gennaro, Gerry, etc.
Another one.. oh no!
Thanks for the hospitality guys!
Thanks! I'm definitely not expecting to be at the front of any packs for a long while. Just looking to improve my skills every time I get out there. Everyone says I'll be hooked. I can't say I've ever had someone tell me "you're going to regret it."
What's the consensus on riding to and from Loudon?

If your going out to do the basic school and novice race without any track experiance you might want to think about doing the track experience and not the race school. Most people have many days at the track before they race. You will most likely be humbled when a novice racer is running 20 seconds a lap faster than you. Take your time. Take it easy, take it easy, take it easy. There is no reason to crash on your first trackday. As for riding up. It's not recommended. If you do it's best to have a freind bring a car with tools and a change of comfy clothes
Other track days are offered at NHIS. Boston Moto and Fishtail are track day companys, also some dealerships like Razee's and seacoast put on one or two a year. Penguin has a track day. It's called the track experience. I've done it twice, it's a nice program. If you talk to the people at registration when you go to penguin they can move you into that group. Tell them what's going on and they will point you in the right direction. If you are dead set on racing you can do the basic school. But, most people will be there as experienced track riders with race prepped bikes. If you do go that route and plan to race there is a lot of race prep that most street bikes wont be able to meet. You can find the rules for the classes with google or maybe someone here can help you out.

I'm sure many successful races have never done a trackday. But, the OP is asking about riding to the track with a streetbike. It might be a stretch for him to jump into racing. That said, I'm not a racer so WTF do I know. I would just hate to see a new track rider jump right in and get over his head and never come back.
