    lost my track day virginity at Thompson

    Wife and I had our first track day friday at Thompson. We are npw scheming to get track specific bikes. My 2014 BMW R1200RT did amazing but it's no track bike.

    Extra cash is a bit tight right now. Looking at a Ninja 250 for my wife and gonna turn her old FZ6 into my short term track bike. Goal is to get a pair of identical bikes so spares can be shared between us. Would love to grab a few of the SV650's that I've seen but all in good time. My wife is currently riding a 2014 BMW R1200GS. I can drag knee on it but she's smaller than me and the bars are so wide she can't hang off far enough and still have her hands on the bars. She touched both pegs at Thompson but kept her pucks off the ground. The GS is just too tall to be her track bike. I don't like her dragging her pegs, next step is a lowside.

    A sporty bike is so radically different than an upright. I don't know if I was better or worse, but I sure felt way more confident on track on my street V-Strom than I did at first on my track SV. It took me a few (dozen!) track days to feel somewhat confident a bike with the sport-bike body position.. and I still don't use all the lean angle the machine has available. But it sure has been fun trying!

    I felt the same way switching from N ergos to low clipons/high rearsets/GMD geometry. It is really nice not worrying about dragging pegs though.
