I'm an old timer still working in the motorcycle business repairing Harleys. Also am the original owner of a 1973 Bonneville that's been in my basement for 30+ years. Currently have a 2020 Harley Softail if anyone's interested.

OK enough welcoming, let's throw you into the deep end.

Is $1500 a cheap price or fool's price for this 1988 Sportster

At first I thought it was Woody Allan, but the Interweb seems to think Groucho.

    Re: New Guy

The early Evo Sportsters had the stator behind the clutch basket. When the transmission support bearing and the clutch hub bearing got sloppy ( it's a Harley), the spinning clutch hub, that was also the alternator rotor, would say "how to ya do" to the stator and you had no longer had a charging system. Bring a meter to check for juice flowing into the battery.

Welcome. I'm just north (west) of Boston myself. No Harley in the stable, used to live the Triumph life.

You could post the Harley in the FOR SALE section here. As to the Triumph, the '73 was a beauty, they fixed the design problems of '71-'72, had the disc front brake and drum rear, and IIRC, the tank was red and gold, with chrome fenders. Original, one owner, should bring a decent price.

    Welcome,
I will be selling my 2000 road king this coming spring, road riding has lost a little of its luster these days, plus the wife doesn't like to ride as well so don't I need the road couch any longer. still have my Triumph Daytona for the times I do ride on the street.
