    Great....ANOTHER new guy.....::eye roll::

    What's goin on everyone, names rich. New to all things motorcycle. Looking to find some ppl to ride with. ALSO, I need some work done on the bike and I'd be appreciative for any suggestions of a good mechanic. Trusting myself to fix something where I'm only on two wheels when I have no idea what I'm doing seemed kind of like a bad idea! Thanks

    Re: Great....ANOTHER new guy.....::eye roll::

    Thanks everyone! And it's a bit of a list....

    What I KNOW it needs...
    1)all fluids changed out especially brake lines
    2)front and rear brake pads
    3)loosened chain ("grossly over tightened" I've been told)
    4)some sort of problem involving starting, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
    5)random little screws here and there that I have no idea where to find

    What I'm guessing on...
    1)Might need a new chain and sprocket
    2)might need a new rear tire

    Welcome to NESR. What are you riding?

    1 - these are easy see google or youtube for vids of fluid changes. There are probably some for your specific bike if it is popular. \

    2- brake pad changes are very easy on motorcycles. They typically take less than 5 minutes. If your mechanically inclined at all you should have no problem. Again google is your friend.

    3- Chan adjustment is simple generally there is an axle bolt to loosen then adjustment screws. I'm being very general but a good place to start is 1.5" movement up and down.

    Concerning the new tire, there are wear bars on them. If it is on or near the wear bars it warrants replacement. if there is any damage/ dry-rotting/ cracking, replace the tire.

    The chain can appear rusty but if it is free moving without and rollers loose it should be fine. If it kinks hard and there is any sign of wear other than rust replace it. Keep it well lubricated. The sprocket will show uneven wear and pointed teeth when replacement is needed.

    I'm being very general but that should get you started.

    When I first started out I received plenty of help so I am willing to extend the favor. I can help with brake lines, pads, fluid flush and chain tension. That other shit is beyond my experience.

    Hey there!

    Try this manual. Read it cover to cover and you'll surely learn quite a bit about your new bike. Youtube can help with some of the stuff where you wonder "how hard" or "how much"; things that are better visually than as text.
    http://cbrforum.com/forum/cbr-600f4-...al-here-63411/

    BikeBandit.com has a nice OEM parts browser. You plug in your Make/Model/Year and Select Body/Fenders -> OEM Parts. Browse away. Unfortunately, you'll find many little screws, nuts, and bolts are fairly expensive this way. It's probably the easiest way to find the specific part, but you pay for the convenience.

    DIY always sucks the first time. It'll take 4x times longer than it should. But it's nice when you understand exactly what's going on, and you don't have to schedule an appointment for things you'll later believe are "so easy".

    For the random screws... are they mostly body panel screws, or something else?

    You can buy cheapy body panel screw kits on fleabay for ~$30 that should be "all" of the bodywork (which would leave you with some spares).

    Cbrforum.com has some good info that is specific to your bike, but as others have said, most things can be youtubed and are "pretty" generic.

    A factory manual can come in handy as well.

    What do you mean by starting sometimes? Not turning over sometimes, not staying running some times. Not hitting at all sometimes? Help us help you .

    If you wanted to take the ride down sometime I would be happy to help. I can get you a tire and mount it for you too.

    Welcome bud. If your mechanically inclined and can work on a car you can work on a bike. Just make sure you go over everythinv when your done. I do all my own maintenance. I don't like not knowing what was done to it by someone else. Deffinately post up if you need help with stuff. And enjoy that bike they are tanks.

    Dip dungles - I might take you up on that offer. Depends on what happens with this "friend of a friend" situation. I really appreciate the offer big time man, thank you!

    Jasnmar - idk bikes well so I might be making up words. But I'm missing a screw on the chain guard, one on the windscreen, and a few on the body panels. And about the starting. It's inconsistent. When it has the problem, it'll sound like its trying to start and it'll sound strong for a second or two but then in a few seconds it'll sound like the battery has no charge. And won't even turn over at all like the battery is completely dead. I had autozone check the battery and they said that the battery is still good and looks fairly new. And it'll happen randomly. One morning ill go out and it'll start no problem, other morning no good. I stalled out the other day and it wouldn't start up and did the same thing. The asshole who had it before me put in a security system himself and did a shit job and ripped out half of it but left one of the boxes still connected for the light? So I thought that was causing the problem so I pulled it out but now one of the tail lights doesn't work, but it didn't resolve the issue. I noticed that one of the wires going in to one of the plugs looks kinda of jacked up, it's to the riders left next to the battery?

    Davezx6r - well what scares me is I have screwed around with my car when I was younger and I fucked up a few times before but whatever, the car was cheap and I was in a cage haha but if I screw up on my bike.....that's no bueno haha

    Re: Great....ANOTHER new guy.....::eye roll::

    Inconsistent starting sounds like either a connection issue somewhere (sometimes it is good, other times not) or could be an issue with the starter. I'd start with the connections. Does it later just start again after seemingly being dead?

    The fact that the PO tried to put in a security system isn't going to help you much in this case.

    If it's the starter, there's a fairly good description of where to dig in at http://cbrforum.com/forum/general-te...r600f4-122847/ .

    For the hardware, there are things like http://www.amazon.com/CBR600-Motorcy...dy+panel+screw that are much less expensive than doing onesy twosy things at the dealership (or hardware store). I just checked the parts fische and it "looks like" the screw on the chain guard is the same one that is used for some of the fairing locations, so the body kit should cover you (that's one of the few things I haven't actually taken off on mine).

    Many people will warn you to replace the automatic cam chain tensioner with a manual one.

    Thanks for all the help. I guess I'll start trying to poke around my bike this weekend. If I don't ever get back to you guys it's because I tried to fix my bike, went on the road, and a wheel fell off or something haha

    And that's awesome, But how did you know of my secret obsession? no one was supposed to know!
