New Rider in the Boston Area

    Hi,

I just picked up my first bike this summer from Ryan up in NH who I believe is a member on here. Finally decided to join the form, looking for anyone who has advice for someone looking to get into track days.

Also anyone in the Boston area who knows some good roads in the area or is ever looking to ride let me know.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    And of course some pics

That's right. Look for Geddy Lee/Jesus riding a honda and he'll introduce you to a few more people.

Welcome. As Brett said get some riding before taking it to the track. You are more than welcomed to join us though to see what the noise is about. BoMo will be at NHMS on the 30th. I'll be leaving from natick the Sunday before if you wanna ride up or follow me. And I ride daily in the area some Thursdays I will come towards Boston too.

lol if I was Geddy Lee I would ride alongside Peart when touring instead of bitching out and taking the plane.

Pssh... sooner the better if you ask me Did mine 3 months after getting my first bike. As soon as you're comfortable riding on the street and all of the controls have become second nature, it's time.

Look in your wallet. You'll never see that much money in there again.
That's how addicting the track is.

    Cheers.

Re: New Rider in the Boston Area

Hi guys thanks for saying hi and for the advice, so far I have done about 1,500 miles on it since I got it so I've been trying to get as much seat time in as possible before I hit that track. Also I've been doing track days and autox for the past 6 years so I've got some experience when it comes to how to handle myself on the track, taking a line, passing etc. As well as how addicted/broke I'm going to be when I start doing track days lol

I was thinking about starting off with the Peguin track experience for my first one anyways since its more controlled, would that be a good idea?

Welcome MikeP. I'm in the boston area as well, and can be convinced to do some riding. I've also done several BostonMoto track days, and those guys run a well organized event IMO.

You Sir know nothing of true greatness. I of course refer to ones ability to steal, drink and generally do nothing, and carry it off with style

Wait until 7 before venturing out of Boston if you don't want to sit in traffic.

Re: New Rider in the Boston Area

If you can keep from getting killed, Mystic Valley Parkway (rt.16) can be fun at reasonable speed.

North and west of town, rt.225 from Bedford to Westford, rt.62 from Burlington to Clinton and a bunch of the roads that branch out from there are nice enough for a new rider. Those are the roads in my neck of the woods. Expect local traffic to kill any kind of long, uninterrupted corner carving, but the scenery can be very nice and you'll get bursts of open road.

Thanks I actually work in Burlington so I've been on 62 but I always hit a bunch of traffic. I'll have to try waiting it out till after the work traffic dies down and taking it farther out of Burlington.

6:30-7ish seems to be the magic number for traffic to become more calm.

It would be a fantastic idea! Any of the local trackday providers would be good!

    Penguin
    Tony's Track Days
    Bostonmoto
    etc.

theres a few more out there..all have the beginner group, all have great instructors, all have classroom time between riding session, etc.

Ive done approx. 40 trackdays and upteen autox's in cars too, you will be right at home...
