Errr, random question but I did a search and came up empty.
Back in Vancouver, bikes were encouraged to park "between" cars instead of taking a whole car spot for street parking. In Western Mass, or even Mass in general, is it expected that motorcycles take up a whole car spot on the street, or can they park for "free" between vehicles?
Depends, in Cambridge for example it's illegal to park "backed in" to a parallel parking spot! e.g. you can't have the rear tire against the curb and the bike perpendicular to the road. They expect you to park parallel while taking up a whole space instead....
Most other areas though, you should be fine. The Commie Commonwealth of Cambridge is a bit "off."
Welcome to the madness.
No no no.. not everywhere else!
Okay so here it is for downtown Boston as well, and I'm sure it's an interpretation for everyone else.
The bike must be parked at an angle into the parking spot BUT NOT perpendicular. It CANNOT be squeezed into any spot or between the cars... although if there is money in both sides of the meters.... then I guess he can't give you a ticket, unless he has some other creative way.
Also.. they seem to hate it when you park near a hydrant.. even if there's enough room. I've had this little talk with a lot of the meter guys downtown here and this is their thought. They hate it the most when you squeeze in here because they say it makes life difficult for cars parking and getting out, and they "hope the bike gets knocked over" wow.. hatred!
Also, the cool thing with *some* of the guys here, they say if the sidewalk is large enough, or there is some large open area, if your bike can be put there and still have more than half the sidewalk free, then they will let you go. HOWEVER.. downtown Boston, boy are they @#$#@$ and that definitely won't fly.
Instead, I try to put the bike at actual bike racks.. they definitely don't give you any problems with that here in Chinatown. Downtown Boston really sucks, you're going to have to ask other people about that. The parking garages don't accept motorcycles, which definitely suck since it leaves very little places left to put the motorcycle.
What the fuck is up with all these damn canuckleheads here?

Welcome.
I came down about 2 years ago and landed in Vermont.
Yes, the Olympics were great and I had to celebrate in a room full of supporters of the "other" team. It's all good fun I guess and we'll do it again in 2014...maybe.
Taking over? I just came here for the maple syrup.
Speaking of poutine I kinda wish I had some right now.
