Wife and I had our first track day friday at Thompson. We are npw scheming to get track specific bikes. My 2014 BMW R1200RT did amazing but it's no track bike.
Welcome to the addiction!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. Also: I happen to know a guy with a track bike...

Welcome! Watch out for these enablers, its a slippery slope
Amen to that.
Time to buy a cheap track bike. Really do look at Chip's.... it would be cheaper to buy/run for an entire season than one minor getoff with your BeeEmm.

Here's a shot.
Day 1 on the track and you look a lot better than me going right. Good work!
Some people have it. Others have to work for it.

Lots of track bikes pop up around this time, I can think of at least 5 right now ranging from 2500 to 8k+ so there should be something in your price range (whatever that is).

Extra cash is a bit tight right now. Looking at a Ninja 250 for my wife and gonna turn her old FZ6 into my short term track bike. Goal is to get a pair of identical bikes so spares can be shared between us. Would love to grab a few of the SV650's that I've seen but all in good time. My wife is currently riding a 2014 BMW R1200GS. I can drag knee on it but she's smaller than me and the bars are so wide she can't hang off far enough and still have her hands on the bars. She touched both pegs at Thompson but kept her pucks off the ground. The GS is just too tall to be her track bike. I don't like her dragging her pegs, next step is a lowside.

A sporty bike is so radically different than an upright. I don't know if I was better or worse, but I sure felt way more confident on track on my street V-Strom than I did at first on my track SV. It took me a few (dozen!) track days to feel somewhat confident a bike with the sport-bike body position.. and I still don't use all the lean angle the machine has available. But it sure has been fun trying!
I felt the same way switching from N ergos to low clipons/high rearsets/GMD geometry. It is really nice not worrying about dragging pegs though.
Looks like you have done this before. welcome to the new fun.
