    Mass riders unite!

16 years now riding two wheels with a motor and I'll never give it up!

Currently living in Belmont, MA just outside of Boston, on a 2010 Multistrada 1200S

I also built and ride a custom ebike which is really honestly more of a motorcycle...

Here for lurking, reading funny threads, getting info about local roads, buying and selling stuff, and probably other reasons. Hi!

Nice eBike, looks like fun. We built a hubmotor bike off an old mountain bike, and later upgraded the battery pack to 48V LiFeP04. Great way to get around the city.

Mostly ride a Tiger 1050 ABS though when it is this hot I steal my wife’s CB500F. We live in the Savin Hill area, across the Blvd from UMass Bodton.

    Re: Mass riders unite!

you drive right past my street on your commute.

also that e-bike is sick, last year I grabbed one of those Geo-Orbitals and slapped in on a new Cannondale Quick and it's fun as hell in the city. 21 mph with minimal pedaling.

How fast that thing top out at? looks like 25, maybe even 30 mph??

edit... Also, doesn't even look like your pedaling at all? and how many miles does the battery last? i'm extremely curious because the bike trail from Alewife is very close to my home and goes all the way to Lexington near my work and a no pedal option to blast down the bike trail at 5am sounds like a fucking hoot!

He replaced the pedals with footpegs a few months ago and it's way easier for noobs like me to corner on it now. :D

Right?! He actually modded it recently to make it *harder* to wheelie! ... but I don't really begrudge him that because it was sketchy af when you set it down, entered a weave immediately.

That thing is cool but definitely walking the fine line between bicycle/powered scooter/motorcycle. I'm sure sooner or later someone will complain about the use of bike lanes and paths through parks etc. looks like fun to ride though.

    Re: Mass riders unite!

I stopped riding since I live in actual Boston. Roads are too crappy, too much traffic and too many people almost killing me. Haven’t bothered to get my bike running again and I lost can’t find the key.

That said, I’ve thought about building an ebike set up to use Ryobi power tool batteries. Saw a video or website of someone who did it. Maybe I’ll pick your brain for ideas/info in the spring.

scubasteveRR, I switched it recently from bicycle tires and a mid-drive with chain to motorcycle tires with an internal rear wheel hub, which is what this frame and swingarm were designed for.

It used to top out close to 60mph, on bicycle tires, and yes it was sketchy AF.

Now it tops out around 45mph, much less sketchy, but also lacks that crazy power it used to have. It's still quick, and very fun to ride, but it definitely lost something when I switched it to the hub. Overall a good move though, the hub requires no maintenance and is truly silent.

Correct, I do not pedal at all. I charge the battery to about 75% (for longevity), and use about 30% of my range for my entire commute (about 15 miles total). At 100% battery I should theoretically have a 45-50 mile range, but I've never tested it.

tls25rs, yes, I 100% agree. I'm extremely careful to basically just ride like a bicycle when I'm in the bike lane, and I do use dedicated bike paths but I keep it at 12-15mph on them and only pass people going slowly. I'd be worried if bikes like this were more common and cheaper, once squids can afford this kind of ride, police will start caring a lot more. As it is now, I've never had trouble.

Also here's the new tire setup: Mass riders unite!-img_20181212_161822-jpg

Daaaamn man that eBike is the sh*t. I've been on the fence for a while... but would love a similar setup. You're just down the road from me (Waltham/Watertown line) and around the corner from my girl's parents place in Belmont... and work just across the river from me! Definitely would love to check that beast out, do you have more info on the build?
