how about an asain ray???? haha. Ian referred me. Not sure his username.

what do you mean "raw talent"?

Also i was hoping you guys can help me out. Everybody i talk to said i should def start off with a 600 or 750. Of course you are def going to have a couple guys telling you to jump on a 1000 but i know my limit and i know what i will do. I'm currently looking to spend the most 3000.00 nothing more on my first bike. I wouldn't want to cry to much when i drop the bike which i hope i won't do. Thanks!

Take your 3k and buy a Vespa. Its safer .....But on a serious note, There are a few guys on this forum that are selling their bikes at around or lower than your range....They are all great deals and reputable sellers.

    Re: NEWbe

    Welcome to the site.

The expression I like to use when people ask what they should start on is "It's your FIRST bike, not your last".... it's wise to buy a cheap piece of shit to learn the basics on. The majority of new riders drop their first bike at least once, if not a few times. There's no sense in buying your dream bike right off the bat just to be a nervous bitch every time you throw a leg over it. Get something you don't mind scratching up and once you learn the fundamentals of riding you can get something nicer.

As for engine size, people say smaller is better... I started on a 600 and although I don't wanna be a hypocrite, I will be... because it almost got me into serious trouble more than once. It's very tempting to hold the throttle wide open and see how fast it'll go. A smaller bike, while it'll get you into just as much shit as a bigger bike, at least it'll give you more time to think "wtf am I doing?" and roll off the throttle before you get to ludicrous speed.

Bottom line: you can learn how to ride on any bike, but a smaller, cheaper, lightweight bike is the smarter choice.

Welcome to the madness Ray! What style of bike (i.e. cruiser, sportbike, dual-sport) do you have in mind?

I always thought starting small and then getting bigger was a good idea (pun intended).

    http://boston.craigslist.org/sob/mcy/2181722428.html

and then save some cash for some gear, and another bike down the road.

    Re: NEWbe

but in all seriousness AzNslackerEzt: I'm buying my first bike soon too. Definitely going with a Honda CBR F4i. Similar to the 600rr, cheaper (normally) and just as good. More comfortable too.

EDIT: have you ever ridden before?
