Thanks everybody for the welcome and the advice. The reason why i was looking at a 1000 is because this kid is trying to get rid of it and i asked a few of my friends to look around for me. They sent him my way and now i don't know if it will go through. But if the price is right i'll take what i can. i do preferred riding a 600 or 750 as a starter bike. Been looking around for a cbr600 or a r6. i want to stay away from gsxr because a lot of them are asking for way to much compare to the cbr and r6. Other bike i would not mind as well because it will be my first bike and i know i might drop it. As for the helmet, jacket, and gloves i'll def be getting one. Boot is actually the first time someone suggest that to me. I'll be looking in it as well. Thanks again guys

the important question is, what kind of riding do you think you'll end up doin? cruising up and down the ave, drag racing on 18, shredding little river rd, or becoming a racetrack hero like doc? that'll help narrow down what kind of bike might make the most sense.

I was hoping he might be able to find someone on the forum selling a bike, i.e. more trustworthy than craigslist, since he hasn't been having luck there.

Also, I'd like to see him get something at least fuel injected, sooo probably post Y2K. I can pretty much guarantee he won't get anything smaller than a 600. He was mainly looking at CBR's and R6's I believe.
