New Rider, New Ninja 250, red-lining down the Hwy in 6th @ 80 mph :-)

    Hi,

New to the forum, new to riding street bikes, took the MSF course in April and have been riding around Central Mass the last few weeks.

I have a shiny red '08 Ninja 250, it don't go fast but it is fun to wind through the gears :-)

    Just saying Howdy!

    -Chris

    Hello and Welcome Chris.

I'm in Wilmington several days each week....if ya see a
black gsx-r that might be me

    ride safe.

and what highway were you redlining it on? Gotta be careful round those
    highways....major speed traps going on.

I was just joking. The speedo's are so far off on these things, I think 80 indicated is probably closer to 70 actual.

Now, had I been going downhill with the wind at my back the bike might have gotten up to 80 mph actual.

I'm 5' 10" and I find the bike pretty comfy. I can see how taller folks might be a little cramped on it.

    welcome C,

had the wifey's 2002 250 ninja up to 11000 rpm's in top gear and she pooped out indicating 95 mph yeah I was going down hill

Great begginer bike .... well except for my wife ....she dropped it trying to turn around during her Maiden Voyage she's a bit bruised but the bike lost a directional and some paint both are still ridable

Congrats on the 250! It's nice to see someone start where they should, and not on a liter bike or a "slow" 600...

    Welcome!

Excellent choice for a first bike. I've been riding my EX250 for two years now and still love it!

If ever you are thinking of taking it to a track day, but are not sure if you have "enough bike", I can tell you that I've had a lot of fun with mine, and both the bike and the track still have a lot to teach me about being fast!

Disclaimer: Track days are extremely addicting!

My experience with comparing my speedo with roadside radar signs is that it seems to be consistently indicating 10% faster than actual speed. I'm not sure how consistent this is from bike to bike, or between the old gen and new gen 250s.

That's on my list! I was thinking of doing the penguin school, but it looks like Tony's Track Days are the way to go for the n00bs?

obviously I'm a little biased, so I'll refrain from giving my opinion & just let the objective truth speak for itself...

Penguin Race School is just that... a RACE SCHOOL... Their focus is on teaching you rules & regs to get into racing.
Tony's Track Days are geared towards STREET RIDERS and helping you hone your riding skills for the street.

As you can see from my bio on the TTD website, I did my first Tony's Track Day with only 3 months & 5k miles of riding experience & it was an incredibly positive life changing experience for me. I've never once regretted it.

If you do decide to come to a TTD event in 2008, I'm scheduled to be at every one of them. Be sure to come say hi & introduce yourself

I did my first Tony's Track Day in May of last year, and have been to every one since!

I haven't done a racing school (yet!) but I have heard a few similar comments that Penguin's is for learning the rules of racing. Pete and the other instructors at Tony's are current or past racers, and some have championships under their belts. They are capable of teaching a n00b how to get around the track, and as you gain experience, they can share many tips on how to become faster!

I highly recommend you join us for a TTD event...

PS: I don't work for TTD, I'm just a satisfied customer.
