    F/A-18 Just landed

I have no Idea what is going on right now but we just had an F/A-18 hornet land at Manch air port after doing an incredibly high speed low level pass over our building..

In a word it was.. AWESOME!!

Confusing though as a Hornet is a Marine / Navy aircraft. why it landed here.

Not to mention we have had KC-135s in and out all week.

    Mmm...

I always love seeing fighter planes. It is great when the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds are at Hanscom, most of the places I've worked you will hear them for a week practicing in the area.

Also up in VT they do exercises over Lake Champlain... lots of fun when they buzz the beach.

    Thats pretty cool

I think the KC-135's are just tanker planes, for re-fueling. Maybe has something to do with recent deployment?

Who knows why they are in Manch, and the F/A-18 makes no sense at all..

The KC-135s orbit over the east coast though. They refuel the patrols that monitor the arctic circle etc.. The VT, NH, and ME air national guard do intercept planes from time to time.

I grew up in the Air force.. The 135's that have been flying over are definately those from the 157th Air Refuling Group. It just makes absolutely no sense to me why they are land in Manch at a public airport.

The F-18 had no ordinance and the nearest base is either maine or Mass so I am at a bit of a loss. Judging by the way he made his first pass over our building I would venture to say he was not having a mechanical problem.

    I'm probably mistaken..

Are the GE F404/F414 engines for the Hornet/Super Hornet made at the Lynn, MA facility? The hornet could have been on the way to/from a demo... I work at P&W, and they occasionally have planes come fly by to show off the engines. We had 2 F15's doing max throttle vertical climbs over the Hartford plant a coupla years ago they were scrambled for a a no fly zone intrusion at Millstone Nuclear Power Plant.

theres a good chance that engines, bases and ordinance have nothing to do with why they are in the area.

I was wondering what that was. Mid-afternoon, it felt like a mild quake had hit Manch. Wonder if that's what we felt...

Yo, Will! Degs & I were up in Burlington with our Missus, Febuary following the Trade Center attacks. We were walking around in that 'pedestrian mall'-type area (what's that called?) and were practically shaken outta our shoes by some low-flying fighters. I was amazed at how loud and fast they were and shocked to see how low they were flying. This went on mosta the afternoon that we were there. I was in absolute awe...

But why patrol inland VT like that?

Yeah, I know. But it's not ENTIRELY off-topic!

There is a fair share of def. contractors and radar mfr.'s in the Nashua/Merrimack area. I once observed an activity where a drone flew from Manch. to an undisclosed location due south for some tracking exercises for one of em.

Though it don't much explain the fly-by, dude couldda just been showing off. I would

edit: to clarify, I was informed it was flown from Manch...I did not observe that portion, just the latter.
