    4 wheel drive beater

I've come to the conclusion that I should be getting a beater this winter to beat on. Price wise, I wanna stay under a grand. I don't mind if it's really beat, but I want it to pass inspection and have a working 4 wheel drive system.

I would prefer a pickup truck, but that doesn't look like it's in my price range. I wish I jumped all over KB's beater that he was sellin earlier in the year.

I was thinkin of a Jeep Cherokee. Older, beatup, preferably the 4.0L inline 6. They can be had really cheap. Anything I should look out for with them?

Recommendations for other cheap 4 wheel drive vehicles? CHEAP being the operative word here. I want to be able to beat it, and HARD. Mud, woods, rocks, especially snow. This will be my toy for the winter!

    4 wheel drive beater

Hey, I'm getting rid of the race bike, might be getting rid of the dirt bike, and once I get all the bills taken care of, I need something to entertain me for the winter! Besides, it's not MY garage, it's my parents. They just got a new shed to keep my toys in too!

The beater will be with me at the apartment along with my car. I wanna be able to go beatin off road with my roomie's Rubicon and my buddy's Tacoma. If it turns out to be a non-pickup, I can also keep tools and shit in it like a shed (rear stands, tools, oil, jacks, etc).

    If it's cheap? Yeah!

    If it's not cheap! No!

Look at a 1989 Cherokee 5-speed 2-door right now....beatup, but runs good. So many possibilities!

You should look into a Subaru with 4 wheel drive. They're ugly, but they go anywhere, are nearly impossible to kill, and easy to work on if you do manage to kill it. Plus, they're super cheap to feed

    I don't think a subaru can handle 30 x110's on it.

Cheap and being able to beat on it should not be used in the same sentence. If you plan on beating on it, plan on fixin things.

stay away from anything that has ever had a plow on it.

if you get a 4.0 jeep, get an older one with v belts rather than a serpentine belt.

    4 wheel drive beater

I knew of a 93 cherokee for sale with the 4.0 high output that was for sale for $2900 no rust. Since i felt it needed tires I got the guy to sell it to me for $700. the inline 6's are nearly impossible to kill and have plenty of power.

Look around for an AMC Eagle, or an old Suzuki Sidekick and go out and piss off all the guys on the trail that spent alot more and got stuck!! Lifted Sidekicks go anywhere, they're light and have a tiny wheelbase, plus they're usually really cheap!
