Where to Advertise Selling a Home?

Going to be helping with selling a home after the estate sale is complete and the house is cleaned out...anyone know any places to advertise for free other than Craigslist and here?...won't be using a realtor just a lawyer...there are already 6 interested parties and I don't see it being hard to sell...just want to get a few more eyes on it without too much BS spam...if anyone has any actual experience with this sort of thing the info would be appreciated...thanks

Real Estate Listings: Buy or Sell a House | ForSaleByOwner

I've sold three houses with just a lawyer. It's not that complicated. Good luck.

Thanks...this is exactly the type of website I'm looking for...last time my family did this we ended up showing it and the realtor really didn't do much...not going that route this time

+1 for this site - I've sold two houses on it. There are tons of sites where you can research the value. Just remember while you'll be saving the seller commission, you might have to pay a buyer's commission if a broker brings you a buyer. We advertised both our places, and limited the buyer broker commission to 2.5%.

Thanks for the info...I just put it up on that site for the 1 month free listing...do you find that upgrading the ad package helped?

I didn't really have to - both were pretty attractive properties that sold in 1 day and 21 days respectively. I did some nice brochures for prospects though.

Good luck. I did a FISBO once and I can say with all honesty I'd never do it again. I just don't have the patience for the kind of stupidity you have to deal with when going that route. Some people are fine with it though, and I know of a couple successful sales going that route. It just isn't for me...

That's not the part that left me wanting to strangle people!

Just being expected on a whim to drop whatever you're doing in whatever part of the world you're doing it in to try to accommodate the tire kickers. I'd have people come up to my windows at all hours of the day. Even got a knock on the door one weeknight at 9:30 without notice. They actually wanted us to allow them a walk-through!

We didn't experience any of this - our place in Mansfield was on the market threes weeks, and viewing was by appointment only or during open houses - no one showed up to the house otherwise. We saved ourselves $30K in seller commission (we paid 2.5% buyer commissions for both). That savings paid for our move and bought us windows at the new house.

The savings alone is what made me go the FISBO route. We tried the whole appointment only thing, but it went largely ignored. I did it with my place in Manchester (NH) and it went fairly well. Although I'm certainly not salesman material. When we toyed with selling our house in Center Barnstead, we first went FISBO. That's when all the weird shit started happening. After a couple weeks, we said fuck it and hired a real estate agent...

don't know how well houses are selling in MA right now, but currently in NH, the average time on the market before a purchase & sales agreement is only 4 days
