Really? Really? Not an exaggeration at all... I got 3 suggestions, one in Nashua that I chose not to pursue. And 2 that I actually persued. If calling a shop that charges double other shops is drinking the water that I'm led to, I'm content going thirsty, but thanks for the helpful opinion.
Fact is, just because advise is given or suggestions are offered on this site, doesnt mean they are the best. And I shouldn't be nailed to the cross for not wanting to spend a dime more than necessary on a 201k mi car. Doesn't mean I'm looking for the absolute lowest price, like many of you assumed, clearly as I haven't gone with it.
I know the bulk of the responders in this thread couldn't give 2 suits about any suggestions if give...
Just another example of a shit show on an Indy forum, where people talk shit in place of what would be at worst a head shake or disapproving face in person.
This forum lay out isn't a slideshow. You are not forced to slave through my thread while awaiting topics you really care about.
Carsick, I think you're wicked arrogant.
How about a Mineke (sp?)or maybe a Firestone? These are 'chain' type repair facilities that may be able to offer an inexpensive repair.

If this thread made you that butthurt, then I failed to recognize what a special and sensitive flower you are. I am sorry I hurt your feelings.
Alternatively, I cannot help but think, WWBD (what would Beet do) in this situation...
In MA the shop has to stay within 10% of an estimate or call you and ask for permission. Is there any such rule in NH?

yes, thank you. And then in the initial message I clarify and say reasonable shops, acceptable prices, etc. Regardless, overpaying for the same service as elsewhere doesn't necessarily mean it's the "best" and pointing out a significant inflation isn't a "shot".
Let's not make mountains out of mole hills.
You don't know what the real price will be until you actually have the work done.
As previously mentioned, for a Honda front drive axle repair our employee went to the low-cost option: and we wound up paying for the repair again because he cut corners. Not to mention the car was back in the shop.
We took one of our Cruze to another shop for state inspection. He said it wouldn't pass because the brakes needed work. The brake system had been replaced as neededthree weeks prior. There's some beauts out there as well as good shops.
The work you are looking for is a real common repair on an extremely popular car. I'd be surprised if there is a garage anywhere that could not accomplish it. No dog in the hunt (we've kept the shops we use in NH out of it) so I'm very curious how it works out for you.

I've found this to be true. I've had a shop go above and beyond on some issues for me. I know for a fact they've had way more time into something than they've billed me for. Find the right place and build a relationship and it can in the long run for sure. Nickel and dime on every job and you might feel better about the "deal" you got at the time, but when it all washes out you're probably behind some, it's just not as easily quantified.

Hi, I'm Gixxer. You don't know me and I've never done business here and I'm not the type of person who is loyal to one shop, but I'd like you to look at my car, diagnose the problem and let me know exactly what needs to be done so that I can shop the work to at least 8 other shops. I'll be looking for the best auto repair that is also the cheapest and if you do get the job, I'll probably never be back again.

You are all welcome for me giving you the heads up that one of the suggested shops grossly overcharges. Had I said I called 2 shops, maybe that would be one less point to be petty and jump all over. A lot of assumptions are being made in here, so think What you want.
Im feeling good about this thread, actually...

Okay, you all can get off your soap boxes now.
These "relationships" you speak of with shops, have to start somewhere. There's nothing wrong with calling for a quote. Paying double the money for the same service, is retarded. And some of you continue to make assumptions, like SteveM's super clever "Hi, I'm Gixxer..." message, that are not accurate, but it doesnt matter, because this is the internet and you all can talk all the shit you want, relevant or not, true or not, if that makes you feel superior.
Well G'man, while I SHOULD be able to see you and your peers in this thread as my brothers in the motorcycling community, you've shown just how low and petty you're willing to go, so I feel it's best to take your lead, and Butcher Bergs lead, and leave my shop choices out of this thread.
Pussy.

Well, at least OP and I agree on why we aren't putting the shop's name in this thread.
