If he makes it, all that much more momentum and an even deeper exposure, they plate another run and the inning continues. That was no mistake. Theo & crew don't have slouches out there coaching & managing. They know exactly what they're doing...

However, Manny shoulda been watching the next batter motioning for him to hit the deck. I keep watching that over & over & over and I fully believe that a decent slide woulda plated another run and kept it alive...

The throw was offline and high; a good slide may well have meant a run. There is always the strong possibility of the runner being injured in a collision with a catcher...that didn't appear to be a huge risk in that particular play though.

If most of you guys listened to the WHOLE interview not just what they cut apart you would have heard Manny say "we are going to go in there and do our best" BUT "if we dont win its not the end of the world."

He also said "we have nothing to lose now so we are going to go out and lay it all on the line"

Does that sounds like a scumbag??

The guy works out during the winter and keeps his bat moving all winter. He hits and hits and hits and you all still complain. NONE of us on this forum could do his job or that of ANY player on this team. I find it funny how everyone can just BITCH about him as a player. The redsox win because of him. .....Where is the gosh darn issue??

drives me up the wall how people think Manny doesn't work just cuz he's a goofball & likes to have fun. On the field he hussles just as much as any other slugger, but because he has fun w/ the game he gets busted on by all the "hard workin folks"

Zachary! You got Papplebon out there on the field doing a drunken rendition of riverdance in his skivvies for all the nation to see and everyone thinks it's the greatest thing since Boggs shouting 'believe' to the faithful (think back to Brunanski's catch in right)...

Yes, I called Manny a shit bag. Mostly because 99% of kids (and adults) will never make the kind of money Manny makes but they will however, be able to act like him, dress like him, and be a lazy shit bag like him on game day, and prolly never play ball like him.

Goes the same for the tendancy for affluent youth of today emulating what the slums of CA and the video era popularized: lazy, unkempt, drug doin, drug dealin, disrespectful, thugs; doin what and who you want, killin anyone in the way of your pleasureful lifestyle.

Just because it happened and still happens doesn't make it right! EVOLUTION .....RIIIIGHT

youGUYS are able to see the behind the scenes "work" that Manny did and still does to be a pro athlete, however a good majority of the youth that follow baseball prolly don't have a clue what he does in the off season and what "work" he did to get to be that good and sign a multi-million dollar contract and prolly don't care! They just want to be like ( emulate )Manny as they SEE him on tv. How he is on the field in plain view as the whole of RED SOX nation and the rest of the viewing audience sees. is that if, to interject Ali here "it ain't braggin if you can do it", M. Ali and how I act and what you see is of no consequence to the youth that these two men have influence over, Then yes he IS a shitbag for setting a bad gameday example. He's not the only player to have done this.

My gripe with this type of player is that:

when I and hunderds of other people that coach youth sports try and defend the "work" that it takes to be "that good" ..... what a player like Manny does to the attitude of a kid is a swift

    that's why he's a shitbag

    GO SOX Whoo Hooo

Yeah totally, haha. I was laughing. "His ability to see if a strike or ball is coming is REMARKABLE".

Did any of you guys see that one strike that was called by the ump (against Boston, but I forget who, actually Manny I think...), then they show the strike box graphic and the ball was way outside? I don't understand that.

[edit] and whoa wait a minute, the slums of CA what? I see so much more of what you are talking about on the news here than I EVER did during my 28 years in Cali. Stabbings/shootings every day in Dorchester (literally), some kid's body floating down the Merrimack like 2 miles from my last address... and then people at work knew the kid and told me his FRIENDS killed him for not wanting to join their gang. WTF? Way too close to home. My wife is pregnant and I don't even want to raise a kid out here when we could move back there (her family is here though and I'm stuck for now). I gotta send them to public schools around here?

And yes, I've been in the slums before, worked in Oakland for a couple years (even been through Compton, yeah, rap music is full of shit, and Colors was a movie). Yes bad things happen, but honestly I see it more since I've moved here.

OK, sorry. Proceed with Sox discussion.

Yeah, the homeplate ump was inconsistent at best.

Not to beat a dead subject like the SOX ....OH wait I mean ..... how the youth of today seeing shit on tv (like what is typically seen on MTV) and emulating it till it becomes a lifestyle.

Affluent americans kids don't need to wear clothes that are two and three sizes too big for them because thier parents spent all the (welfare or otherwise) money on drugs or whatever. AAK's don't need to carry guns and shoot the other kid because "he called me a dickless gay shitbag".

Thug life has been glorified. Even though there are reality checks when someone does go and shoot up a school or stab someone for looking at them ... just looking at them.?? When My stepson goes and acts like a thug dresses like a thug and chooses to be more like the people he sees on TV then drives drunk and high because he's a thug and they are invincable and kills someone ...ya no lie. Now tell me how a pro athlete (no matter how good or bad their talent is) who brings that attitude of style and presence and drug abuse, steroids, animal cruelty, .....into sports doesn't make them a shitbag.?

Oh and BTW this current wave in glorifing this lifestyle ( thug life ) and fashion sense ( baggy clothes and slouchy walk) has it's roots from the 80's90's westcoast slums, and yes rappers of the time NWA, EZ- mutherfuckin' E ...etc NOT the dorchester thugs being copycats. My work over the last 15 years has taken me through the Boston slums and inner city shit as well as the suburban above it all's on a daily basis and I'll tell ya boston thugs are bad (true) but they are a bunch of posers and copy cats .. no originality.

If ya didn't know it before ya moved there Haverhill has long been known for being the cocaine capital of the north shore and just in case gloucester is a close second

    sorry for the interruption
and now back to the SOX discussion

He could make 5000 dollars a season like my uncle did playing for the BOSTON PATRIOTS back in the day '70-'72. if My uncle did any of the things mentioned I would think him a shitbag as well.

IMO having money is no excuse. Because he has money he doesn't have to care what kind of image he presents? If that's the case then he's a poor winner and a shitbag for being so. hhhuuummmph

That's what I mean! McCarver'll harp for an inning & a half about how Manny didn't run it out. Then he gets up again and it's like, eh...fuck it. You get my point...

That silly box graphic pinpoints where the catcher catches the ball, not where the ball crosses the plate. I haven't been overly impressed with the balls & strikes this postseason, but it truely is incredibly hard to tell on television sometimes where the ball crosses the zone. Fox ALWAYS over does it with fuckin' graphics that 'help' us watch the game. I fuckin' HATE that shit! Remember the 'glowing' puck! WTF???

P.S Just my opinion, but Manny is dead right when he says "if we lose, it doesn't matter"

He isn't saying he won't try. He didn't get to be a pro player without drive, determination and effort. From what I have heard, he shows up early for practice, goes to all non-mandatory practice sessions. What he is saying is that he will relax (which you should if you want to play well) and try his best. If we don't win, no-one is going to die, no-one is going to be homeless and destitute because the Sox got knocked out.

    He didn't run because :

A: None of the top hitters run THAT hard any more.
b: If that ball was 2 feet nearer it would have been caught and 2 inches further it would have been a home run. Manny was assuming that he didn't NEED to run.

I have a big problem however with the IDIOT 3rd base coach who waved him on in the 1st. Manny didn't dive for the plate, but why would he when he was so obviously busted. I was watching and I hardly understand the game at all having never played it, but after my limited softball experience I would NEVER have passed 3rd in that situation. I saw the hit and said "cool, Manny on 3rd", then I see him rounding 3rd and heading for home with the ball in the air to the catcher. A little league team wouldn't make that mistake.

Someone said to me "yeah, but it's the playoffs, you have to go for it" ok, so every time you hit the ball, you just keep running all the way for home plate until you are tagged because, well, it's the playoofs. Dumbass. I don't blame Manny because he couldn't see the ball coming in, but I really wonder if the 3rd base coach should even be doing that job. Give the job to me, I could do it better.

    derek

If that's the case then he's a poor winner and a shitbag for being so. hhhuuummmph
