Audi A4 with a stick. You can get a lot of car for under 10k.

SAAB engines when taken care of are extremely reliable. The 2.3 and the 2.0 were both really good engines. The 2.8 V6 was not as much saab as Mondero. My last saab had the 2.8 V6 with the 6-spd. The engine was very smooth, the manual 6 had a lot to be desired. My choice now would be a one of the last true 9-5 body cars with the 2.3 and a 5-spd manual. Great cars.

Theres ia a reason the 9-7x was called the Troll-Blazer. but yes a trail blazier with a nice nose on it and don't forget the night panel button. A customer traded in a 9-7 Aero which was a trailblazer SS. I was so pissed I didn't snag that car.

Ended up with an A4, 2006 with 87k. Black on black, amazing condition and up to date on service. Kids are in love, and after driving it I want my own..

Awesome. If the timing belt hasnít been done, do it by 100k. JohnnyV recommends having the half shafts repacked and new boots about the same time. I love my A4 wagon, passing it along to the lady next year and Iím thinking an S4 with a stick may be my next ride...as long as I can find a truck for a few grand as well.

    Re: BMW cars

    I had an 07 328xi Coupe and now have a 11 550i RWD.

Both have been very reliable. The 07 was rock solid with just the standard maintenance items. The AWD was awesome and you can definitely get one now for under $10K.

Have you looked into used WRXs? I believe those hold up well and can be found under $10K. Maybe Legacy GTs as well.

In the end though...these are teenagers...they should have a safe car but a BMW to start? Screw that...make them suffer and appreciate the fact that they are getting a free car. Hell...my first car was a hand me down 1983 Volvo DL station wagon. I loved that damn thing even though the timing belt would screech all the way from my home to the high school parking lot.

S4's are a blast, I went stage3 on my B5 S4 and it was far and away the most fun I've had on 4 wheels. If you're mechanically inclined and don't mind doing your own wrenching they're not that bad money wise, just time. As I've mentioned before, wheel bearings tend to fail earlier than most other cars I've owned, as well as the CV's. I've come across a number of S4's with failed heater cores, which is a huge undertaking to deal with if you're not able to bring it back to life.

And it's tough to compete with the timeless look of a clean B5....

Must be that generation of cars, I adore the similarly timeless look of e39's and e46's. ~'99-'04 were great years for BMW and Audi.

It was the ONLY car poster, among a slew of moto pics and posters, that was in my room growing up. It was actually on the ceiling.

Still can't justify one as I need a DD, but my Wagon's getting pretty close... M5 steering rack, equivalent suspension, better brakes.... looks the part (at least up front), AND can haul errrrythang, while towing to boot (4,000 lbs towing capacity!). Eventually will round her out with headers, an LSD out back and (maybe if I can score one used) a VF supercharger to bring power in-line with the S62 (running 7 psi, the VF kit is good for ~410 rwhp.

My boss just got rid of his 2002 M5 couple years back, traded it in. It was immaculate, he was one of those guys that had to have the car perfect at all times. He had 145k on it, was costing a few bucks to keep it on the road.

So would you like to hear more about the C5 RS6 we have sitting in the driveway with under 5k miles on the clock? Those twin turbo V8's really are dreamy
