Was anyone into the BMX scene in the early/mid 90's?

I was pretty big into it during that time, and now that my son is closing in on being able to fit on a proper bike I've been scouring CL looking for some of the bikes I used to have(I should have kept them all, holy shit the value of those things now). In my search, came across this on eBay.....

I was into freestyle street and park in the late 90's early 2000's. It was the best time I ever had. Used to travel everywhere and had so much fun. Cost me my knees though.

My cousin's husband was pretty legit back in the day. Used to ride for fbm. Derrick Girard (the maineiac).

Now he has a machine shop at their place in Maine and makes custom bmx parts.

I still collect them but they arent ridden, just hanging on my walls. I grab just about every cyclecraft bike i can find since my friends were sponsored by them back in the day. Same goes for auburns and robinsons. I have a few legit tour defrance bikes as well and they are center pieces of my collection. Everything i have is mint or totally restored except for the de france ones. Those are made functional to ride and i used to run them every now and then. They are like going from a pinto to a ferrari compared to the other road bikes i had.

Be ready for sticker shock on alot of the older bikes. You can pay thousands for a bike that was hundreds years ago. One of my cyclecrafts i bought direct off the old owner with a signed letter stating that has had offers of over 2k that i turned down. One of my road bikes had an offer of 6k that i also didnt take just because of its history, not really the parts. Youll find the people that buy them because they couldnt in there youth dont really part with them.
hmm, i bought an '80 Kuwahara KZ-1 off a kid i used to ride with, he was sponsored by CycleCraft back around that time, which was maybe '85 (?) wonder if you knew him? i'd have to think real hard about his name, lived in lower CT. absolutely LOVED the cruiser he rode and raced. i still want a vintage CC cruiser so bad because of that bike.

I raced bmx all through high school, and as a result got into Street and dirt jumps from there.
My homie owns one of the OG bmx shops in the country, right in Halifax mass. I have a loose connection to the scene now, as lots of my old friends rode, or still ride, or are in the industry one way or the next.
And yes, there's a modern s&m dirtbike in my garage with all the goodies. Sadly, after so many years on big bicycles, it doesn't not at all feel like home anymore.

Scored on Craigslist last night: 1995 Mongoose Motivator. Came to the realization my son is still too small for any of the bikes I'd love to get him on to relive my youth(GT Performer, Robinson Pro, etc) but this is a reasonable substitute. Very nice shape and should clean up well, going to see if I can find some NOS parts to refresh it a bit without killing the early/mid 90's feel.

I'm likely going to snag something for myself so I can pedal around with him a bit but I'm in no rush. I'd love to find a nice condition Powerlite P51 frame and piece together a bike with parts that I drooled over as a kid but couldn't afford then.

one thing to remember about buying the old vintage bikes is the weight limit of the models. it wasn't a big deal when you were a younger kid but now that we are old fatties it something to consider. some of my bikes are just wall hangers because of weight limits. For instance I believe those aluminum p51 frames can only take about 175lbs. some of my cycle craft experts can only take 150. even the wheels and other components can have limits.

It's cleaning up nicely, just about all of the minor surface rust came off without leaving too much pitting behind. Trying to source some NOS/OEM grips, seat, and possibly a Bulldog brake lever/perch.

This was one of my designs.

I had the best deal with Odyssey, and they were very good to me.

Here is another design that I sold to Dan's Competition.

My brother and I did some BMX racing back in the day at Route 5 BMX in South Windsor, CT beside the old hockey arena. I had a Diamondback and he had a Kuwahara. He was a lot more into it than I was back then but it was still fun.

Had the very first pearl white Redline Proline on the East Coast, circa '95 or so. I'm sure I could find some pics if I looked hard enough. Cost something like $500 at the time...which was boku bucks for my family at the time as well. Idiot me sold it 5ish years later for relative pennies for car parts. Would love to still have that bike today!

Wheres the thread for bmx fan in the late 70's? (LOL)

They called me "bmx beek" in 7th grade, no joke. We had tracks built all over the place but the only organized track I knew of and visited back then was in Wilton, CT

    Hey guys,

I picked this Redline a few weeks ago. Unfortunately space is a little tight at home right now. Just put new grips and brake pads on it last night. Shoot me a PM is somebody wants to pick this up. I am in Framingham and will be at Palmer on the 29th. Thanks, Eddie
