    Sweet!

I came out of my office today after work and startled two wolves in the parking lot. They took off into the woods when they saw me emerge from the office. I had my camera with me but no time to take a pic before they were gone.

wolves are huge. I had no idea how big they were till I worked for a guy one summer that had a half wolf half dog (must have been a painfull conception). That thing was huge, and would bite my ankle just playing and pull me around by it like it was a stick. Tore threw my pants, thank god I had 14 hole doc's on.

    Oh, ok.

I only saw them for a second or so and they were moving fast. They kinda looked like huskies but a bit bigger. I didn't see their heads, just their backs and tails.

I'm guessing Lynx-type thing too. Your local Fish & Game would be able to better tell you though...

I'm also guessing what Degs saw was Coyote. Wolves are a hard find, even up where I live, and they're VERY reclusive and weary of ANY human activity. Coyotes are scavengers and are very common in New England and they'll search out the easiest food source, bedding (den) area, etc. Mangy looking things, those Coyotes. We have a pack of 'em up on the hill by my house. You can hear 'em howling at night, usually between 10:00 & midnight. Once in a while you can hear them & the fox barking & howling at each other...

Wolves are fuggin' HUGE too, and usually travel in packs. Usually big packs. I've never seen just 2 or 3 wolves in the wild. There's usually 5 or 6 hanging around together...

That looks like a mountain lion. You'd better not go outside!

This obviously being sarcastic after the recent events in Acton MA with the alleged Mountain Lion sighting.

    bobcat in my driveway.

    Nikon, Bennington County.

rmbbikes, the same day i saw this there was a mountain lion seen not more then 3 miles away. It was the second time in the same neighborhood, except this time they actually got photos. I've yet to see them, however a coworker of mine, who lives on that street, did. I'm hoping he's going to bring them in. They're saying it was quite passive, and prolly one of those released exotic pets that get a little too big for 'hand feeding'. Local authorities are still trying to locate it.

I believe there are Mountain Lions in VT and maybe NH...

I think the state just doesn't want to admit it as then they will perhaps have to do something about it, either to protect or control them.

There are lots of people in VT who claim to have seen them and yet officials continue to just say "la la lal there are no Mountain Lions in New England.." One of my friends saw one while hiking the Long trail, he said it was the scariest animal he's ever seen due to it's absolute silence..

I've seen Coyotes and Foxes quite a bit, Foxes are actually pretty cool IMO.

I think it is only a matter of time before all these species return en mass with our ridiculous overpopulation of deer.

    Nice Pic BTW... good capture...

that still looks like a lynx to me. given the backside (and I know a lot about backsides) i would still say lynx...... bobcats have a little different structure to their bodies and usually a bit of a longer tail than a lynx

a face pic would really help...next time can you run after it with a top sirloin and snap a shot of its face for me?

This is true. I have a friend who has a mountain lion that comes out and stalks his horses, he has seen the tracks, and seen the lion. After talking to a few people who know about these animals he has confirmed that it is a mountain lion. But when he asked the game warden what he could do about it. He was told nothing because NH doesn't have mountain lions. The state just denies their existance in NH, and blames bears for any attacks.

And I'm with nikon that looks like a lynx

    Canadian Lynx.

The Bobcat is in the Lynx genus. I believe this to be a CL due to the white tipped hair, lack of distinct pattern in fur, and the size (Bobcats are generally smaller).

Don't have too many rabbits left do ya?

Wildcat Mt. got it's name due to the mountain lion population, sadly, I do not believe there are anymore (at least not on Wildcat).

So the state is telling your friend to shoot the fucker. I've overheard such things at early morning breakfast joints in Conway before skiing for the day. Guess there's something to it huh?
What I heard is they shot it, called, and the GW took it away, never a reply.

There are mtn. Lions in MA as well. There is at least one in the Beartown St. forest that I hunt and it scares the shit outta me when I am there. It followed 2 of my friends back to their truck after a morning hunt about 2 years ago.
And just last week when I was there we asked the local EPO and Ranger about it and sure enough its still around, it just recently followed the EPO out of the woods and crossed the street about 20-30 yards behind her.
