Boston folks, keep an eye out for the new self driving Lyft cars

Curious how this will work out in Boston, should be interesting, especially during winter snowstorms. As well as how it deals with the typical Boston drivers

Lyft is beginning its self-driving car pilot with self-driving car company nuTonomy in Boston as it looks to ramp up its self-driving efforts, and is now matching its riders with self-driving vehicles in parts of Boston, nuTonomy said today.
Would you city folks who use these car services be willing to utilize the self driving vehicles?

They've been here for a few weeks now. They're limited to the Seaport and South Station. I'm very curious how they pan out, especially when they have to deal with pedestrian traffic hell in the Back Bay.

As long as it's safe and it's cheap I'm down

We just need to wait until someone gets hurt and then assess for ourselves whether or not we think it's worth the risk to use such a service

good luck in the s station area... those cars are going to need revlimiters so they can bounce off of them to keep the "i can make it" hoards of people crossing in the middle of green lights back.

I guess they have been experimenting in my back yard, Rockland at Union Point. Hell the have thousands of VW to practice crashing into.

Technically, if they're in a cross walk without a traffic control device and are within 10' of your travel lane, you are required to yield right of way.

Pedestrian behavior in Boston is a huge part of the traffic problem.

New record holder today: woman drove down our street while FaceTiming video.

We paced another guy who looked at his phone for 7 seconds, looked up, then looked down again for 2 seconds. So texting for 9 of 15 seconds.

All new tech comes with mis-steps, false starts and hiccups. Eventually, they will refine it enough to be statistically reliable. I will keep an eye out for them in Southie / seaport! Are they a certain color or have appendages or signs on them to indicate they are self-driven?

Doesn't need to be perfect, just better than the average driver... Doesn't seem so steep a challenge now.
