If you really want to run it, there are charity team #’s available. My wife has run for BPL, Boy’s & Girl’s Club and another. You don’t have to qualify, and you do get transport out to the start. Most require you to raise money for them, but a week or two before the event they give them away as its bad form not to use them all.

    Re: Boston Marathon

I'd like to do one someday. I've done several 1/2 marathons in the past few years, it's not THAT huge of a jump to get to 26.2 once you have the muscle base. The biggest hurdle is qualifying, you have to qualify by September of the previous year. So basically you need to be in that shape for about a full year. For me being a 43YO male, thats a heavily attended group, meaning I could qualify and still not get in. As mentioned there is the charity route, but it's about 5K for that. That being said, I still want to do the Boston Marathon. Just once.

I wouldn't mind riding the route on a bicycle, but I have zero intentions of running it. Half is plenty for me.

my girlfriend is trying to qualify for next year, as a 30yo woman she would need to run around a 3:28 to qualify. she just ran a 1:35 half marathon last weekend and came in 2nd female over all. she has a marathon in Sugarloaf in May to try to qualify

The prevailing strategy to qualify: find the flattest marathon possible!

Just heard about this on the radio the other day. Apparently a bunch of cyclists get together the night before at midnight and pedal all the way in. Most of them are drinking the whole way. I'm 100% in for it next year, should give me plenty of time to get a can holder installed on my h-bars.

I didn't see anyone drinking when we did it last year.

It was an awesome time though! Was going to do it this year but weather kept me away.

Come to Boston Bike Party the 2nd Friday of every month. Much shorter ride (typically ~10 miles) but we're definitely drinking

Ah man, didn't think you'd made the trek "all the way" up for that. I'm def in next year pending weather!

Not with our group. Arcy almost killed me as I started falling behind towards the end. Nevermind drinking..

Riding it at night a bit dangerous? Sunday night into Monday morning I guess would be ok. I think the Lowell marathon would be a great qualifier. It’s in October so less sweating and what I’ve heard is flat.

A neighbor works at one of the downtown hotels. Running club books 100 rooms every year, and individual runners as well: one guy has run 39.

Only thing new this year: snipers on the roof.

No different than riding any other road at night, except this one has no cars on it and a few hundred other cyclists.
